http://houston.mlsnet.com/MLS/hou/fans/2006/name_the_team/ The choices: Apollos Americans Bulls Buffalos Eagles Generals Gatos Houston 1836 Lonestars Mustangs Stallions Stars Toros Oh, and if you're a legal resident of Texas 18 years old or older at the time of entry, you're eligible to win two season tickets, a ball signed by the team, and an MLS team jersey autographed by the team. I'm assuming that that last one is going to be a Houston jersey, and not some other team's jersey.
I've already posted my disgust with the choices on the Houston forum. The only name I might consider on that list is Apollos and even that i'm not crazy about. This list looks like it was written up by a 5th grade class.
So is Huss going to send a personal apology via email to all the ppl who posted and viewed the "leaked logo" thread in MLS General? How will the BS community recover from this?
Interesting that "Bulls" and "Toros" are among the choices. Weren't we supposed to have a nickname like that for FCD?
Holy crap. These choices are the first set of almost universally non-retarded choices that any MLS team has had in a "name the team" contest and you don't think they sound adult or classy enough? Tough crowd.
They had Ralphie at the Big XII Championship game at Reliant Stadium a few weeks back. I had never seen them running with Ralphie in person, but it's kind of funny. They have her in a pen at one end of the field. Then when the team is about to come out on the field, they run Ralphie down the length of the field and right into her trailer at the other end. And they do this once at the beginning of each half. Other than that, no more Ralphie sightings for the rest of the game.
I voted for "Apollos". After each home goal, a scantilly clad "god" could race a chariot around Robertson Stadium Note: According to MLS, "The new team name will be announced on or around January 12, 2006."
BTW, for those of you who think that Buffalos would be a strange name for a team in Houston, it's worth pointing out that Houston was founded on the banks of Buffalo Bayou, which still runs through town.
It's Houston Republic FC. This poll is meaningless, just a fun way to get fans involved. You can be sure they (and Checketts) already had this planned out.
Well thats your opinion and you're entitled to it. I personally think they're childish and corny. Clearly BigSoccer is the last place you're going to find agreement on much of anything.
Aren't there enough "Rangers" in pro sports already? We've got the "New York Rangers" in the NHL. And, of course, the "Texas Rangers" in MLB. Wouldn't "Houston Rangers" be a little overkill?
