Not to burst any bubbles, but I think there's already a fairly major team in Texas named the Rangers. I know that Arlington and Houston are pretty far away from each other, but...

    Other:

    Houston Mercury
SC Houston (I like the subtlety of Space City as well as the anti-eurosnob/FC Dallas rivalry in the name)

    and just to be silly:
    Houston Clash
    Houston (AEG's) Hobby

Y'know, the geeky way to handle all this is to start testing domain name ownership of various names. See which ones MLS and/or AEG has purchased. Not something I'm very good at, but I know for sure there's some BS posters that have been masters at this sort of sleuthing.

El Jefe, Buzz and myself did that on day one. Nothing as of yet.

Any of them registered to anyone that might be an AEG employee?

I do not have a coy of the AEG payroll, but that is perfectly possible.

Interesting. Wonder if they've gotten tired of us figuring those things out. I have a hard time believing they're really waiting for the fans vote.

I have never believed that from any pro-sports franchise in the past. Too much at stake, not to mention time constraints than to wait for the unwashed masses to vote; thought it generates some sort of buzz in the soccer community... I don not give a chit one way or another... FCD is gonna beat those infidels to a pulp. Houston and its MLS franchise stink !

Or if the PA announcer is Gretchen Helfrich (an even more obscure reference).

I would imagine that they'll come up with a few choices, register them, do the vote, and pick the one that they liked in the first place.

Assuming of course that they're not a bunch of doofuses like the old FCD management.

I like Lone Star Houston. Has that Red Star Belgrade ring to it. Rolls off the tongue easily and feels "soccer specific."

    Good luck Houston Clash ;)

Lone Star Houston can then be easily given a nickname like the Eagles Hurricanes, or whatever people want to call them.

    Good Names so far:
    Lone Star Houston
    Houston Soccer Club
    Houston Athletic Club
    Houston United

    whatelse am I missing?

The "Clash" name is holy, and should not be used for Houston, even in a joke.

Yeah right lets see you're a FC Dallas fan but not a troll, give me a break, either you have to change your teams supported or also stop trollling this list.

The colors would be cool if they were the old NFL Oilers colors, Light Blue Navy, White and Red.

    I like

    Sporting Houston
    Houston Landers - (moon landing)
    Houston Rovers - (mars rovers)
    ASC Houston
    Houston Apollos
Houston Floods - (as in chicago fire)
Houston County (as in Harris County)
Houston City (as in Man City)

I remember a couple of things from growing up in houston: here they are in no particular order:
rain, heat , flooding, rodeos, astroworld, the astrodome, open spaces, lizards, cowboy boots, mechanical bulls, tornadoes, corn dogs, and the Houston Oilers. Back in the day, we sang a song at school that went love love you blue ( to a beatles tune) and this was before we sang the star spangled banner every morning. Hardcore oilers fanatacism, I've never seen anything like it.

I think Rangers is out of the question with there being 2 teams which are already Rangers (Texas, New York) not counting the Scottish side.

Yeah I remember reading in Mens Health or was it Mens Fitness that Houston had the most obese male population in the US.

What about Houston Balompie for a name.

Not only does she offer me a recipe for concrete shoes, she sends me a pink nipple! Tedious -- but what else to expect from a PC/DC flower lady?
