We all know who we really hate...the team that shall not be named, yet one must wonder how we are to regard Houston as a franchise as they essentially earned San Jose's third MLS Cup last year...

Are they feinds for friends...do we boo and bash, or applaud...(note, this is not for the players but rather the club of Houston) I personally hate them but love the players...every time I see Houston I see all that is evil in corporate sport.

They didn't win San José's third MLS Cup last year. They won Houston's first.

The Houston Dynamo ownership more than deserves our eternal hate, but its players are simply players of a team other than the San Jose Earthquakes and its fans belong to a fanbase other than the San Jose Earthquakes'. As far as I know, they haven't done anything out of the ordinary to us... yet.

When the Dynamo visits us for the first time next season, I won't boo its players but I definitely won't applaud them either. I'll likely sit silently during their introductions, then stand and cheer loudly when the Earthquakes players are introduced. :)

    GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!!

I certainly agree this it is the ownership and not the Houston players, coaches, or even the fans who deserve our jeers. When Houston comes to town I will politely clap for those players who played for us, and who left through no fault of their own. I will then cheer and yell for those players who currently wear the Earthquakes uniform. When the game starts the pleasantries will be over, and I would hope that every Earthquakes fan will give 100% of their support to the actual Earthquakes team. Once the whistle blows it on baby!:D

On a separate note I sincerely hope the league will not make Houston one of our first games. I would like our fans to get the chance to know our team before we face the Dynamo. I think once there are boys in blue again actually playing, most EQ's fans won't feel split loyalties. I won't:cool:

I also agree that that was not our third cup. However, it doesn't make me any less pi$$ed off about what happened.

They rank right up the with the LA scumbags and have since they day they moved as far as I'm concerned. In all honesty I stopped watch MLS entirely until the day we were awarded the new franchise. None of those guys are Quakes anymore unless they sign with the new franchise. I will treat them the same as the scumbags from now on. IMHO :D

Um, let me think Houston is . . . a city in Tejas. Therefore, I hate them!

    That was easy!

I wish the players personal well being and success, but I want the franchise to fail miserably.

AEG sucks. They need to be taken down a couple of pegs. I love that Lost Angesleaze is failing badly, but I want to see Houston take a header as well.

And I agree that I don't want Houston to be one of our early games, I want to start against Colordao, RSL, KC, maybe FCKDallass. We need some regular games to start.

    GOOOOO QUAKES!!!!!!!

Houston are the best team in the league this year, they play admirable soccer. I love their possession game, BUT, they are now the enemy. We have special reason to despise them and boo them, hell they are an AEG team. Like others said on intros i'll observe a moment of silence, neither booing or cheering their players, rather mourning the loss of what was once our great team. But then, when they introduce the Quakes a moment later it will be a moment of celebration, as the Phoenix rises from the ashes.

I want Dom back, I'd like a few of the players too, but unless they are in blue when we play em there'l be no cheers or even polite claps from me.

Unlike other's I would like home opener to be against the Dynamo. I'd like that moment of silence to be the last moment of silence ever for our old team's loss, and the ensuing moment of enthusiasm to be the beginning of a new era, a loud era, and an era, finally, where us fans know we do have a team and an ownership who cares about this community.

Hate them. No contest. Come on, let's be serious, all true sports fans know that you can only support ONE team. The players on Dynamo are FORMER Quakes, not current. They are our enemy in the standings/conference next year. If you are a true supporter, this shouldn't even be a question.

Just think of it this way:
    (A) they are from Texas. Californians hate Texas. Texas gave us W. Texas is diametrically opposed to Bay Area moral/ethical/political values. Texas takes TECH JOBS from San Jose.

    (B) they are orange. barf.

    (c) they are a living, breathing symbol of AEG. They are still owned/operated by AEG. They are a direct product of AEG. To AEG, apparently a city usually lumped in as one of the least desirable in the nation is more desirable than SJ.

    (d) whenever they get a new stadium, it will have a nice, crappy, huge stage at one end. Thank you AEG. Meanwhile, we can thank Wolff that we will have a loud, intimate, covered stadium pretty centrally located in our sprawled out region.

    (e) any silverware they win, just remember that is ours by all rights, but AEG took it away.

    (f) cheering is fun, but booing is even funner :eek:

PS. please please rename thread with FIEND. omg, it's obsessive compulsing me out.

Can we do a funeral procession before the start of the match? Drums, black veils/suits, coffin, grave,? 'Twould make for quite the spectacle on TV (not that the local newspaper would care to look).

    edit: Bagpipes!!

It's actually best for the San Jose Earthquakes' first home game next season, as well as its first home game in The [Corporate name] Epicenter at San José, to be played against the likes of Columbus or Colorado or Real Salt Lake or some other less-glamorous MLS team, and then play both LA and Houston soon afterward. :)

    GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!!

I don't hate the team or fans. They just happen to be in the line of fire of my ill will toward AEG.

Team: Hale them like I hate any team we happen to be playing.

Individuals on the team: Quite a few guys I like (De Ro, Mullin, Ching, etc.) who I want to see do well, just as I like to see certain other players on other team do well, such as Josy Altidore.

In other words, my attitude is exactly like it is for most every other team

The enemy of my enemy is my friend, at least when Houston plays the filth. The rest of the season they revert back to being my enemy. They are no longer San Jose, so boo them I shall!

I guess I feel differently than most of the posters here. Of course I will root for the Quakes when Houston comes to town. But I hope Dom and the players get nice ovations at the start. They had nothing to do with the move, and they were more negatively affected than we were (some had to move their families, etc.). And Dom went out of his way to give a nod to San Jose fans during their title run last year.

So we can try to express our hatred for AEG, but unlike Dom and the players, AEG won't be there to hear it. Lieweke will be in LA figuring out how to sell more Becks shirts, and planning the next phrase to which he can attach "at the end of the day". Some well-crafted signage at the game might be the best way to vent at AEG.

    Totally agree.

I reserve hate for the Galaxy, and that is all. Every and any other team - even Chivas, being another LA team and all - is a distant second at best.

I wouldn't cheer for the Dynamo during the game, but I would clap my hands for the former Quakes players the first time back.

Fiend. Like any team other than the San Jose Earthquakes. Frankly I feel about them like most Quakes fans do about LA. Houston is scum (through no fault of the players mind you). And should be treated like all scum.

I guess the person who started the thread thought "foe" didn't have enough punch. Of course, we could have "fiend or foe." ;)

KNBR had a "This Day in Giants History" last week, which recapped a game the Giants played against the expansion New York Mets back in 1962. The game was played at the Giants' old stadium, the Polo Grounds, as Shea Stadium had yet to be built. The Giants won the game, and in the radio clips KNBR played, you could hear the Polo Ground crowd wildly cheering for every hit and run the Giants had that afternoon. These were the players that those fans had grown up with and idolized, and while they were supporting their new club, they still gave the Giants their respect.

While I'll obviously be supporting the Earthquakes, when Dom and the rest of the boys come to San Jose, I will be giving them the loudest applause I've ever given an opposing team. And so, I suspect, will most of the Earthquakes crowd.
