That's pretty deep in the basement for the Dash.

Making up a 7 point deficit in the final 8 games is way too steep a climb.

It’s an interesting question. One thing to remember is that Segal (as of early 2022) is/was the chairman of the NWSL expansion committee. I’m sure league owners already know about potential markets, but I would imagine you can turn that up a dial with Segal’s knowledge from that committee. This is a double edged sword. On one hand, Segal knows how much specific organization are willing to spend to bring a team to their city and maybe come down to their price to offload the Dash. The other side has him using that knowledge to hold onto the Dash until a time where the NWSL isn’t as interested in expansion and selling to a group that wants in but can’t get through the expansion door. I personally think the Dash are just going to stick around, maybe get better maybe not. It depends on how much of a burden the ownership and/or executives consider the Dash. Unless we get any reporting we really don’t know. It’s entirely possible that everyone in the organization is still happy to have the Dash. We simply don’t know.

From what has leaked out officially and unofficially (my secret sources). The Dash are def a burden.

I don't doubt that now that they've actually put a front office around the team (though a bad one). That's fairly irrelevant, though. Segal is a PE guy and he's seen NWSL team variations, on a % basis, increasing much faster than MLS valuations. For example, OL bought the Seattle Reign in 2020 for $3.8 million and sold them last year for over $60 million. San Diego went for $113 million earlier this year. A rising tide lifts all ships.

He's also seen that if you hire the right people, you can turn teams around quickly. The three best teams in the league this year all missed the playoffs last year. His problem is he needs to move on from Jessica O'Neil. She completely bungled the last GM search and wound up with the worst GM in the league.

Wildcard is what happens as NWSL pulls away from the MLS model. There's rumors they may switch to a European schedule as well. That could be good for the Dash. Only a few months overlap with the Dynamo reduces soccer overload and avoiding the summer months might help attendance. Other wildcard is the news that MLS intends to start its own women's league.

Long story short: as long as franchise values continue to rapidly increase, doesn't really matter whether they are a burden or not.

I’ll say this, I’m starting to believe in whatever success the Dynamo have is in spite of O’Neil. That being said with the team being decent, and at the very least much superior compared to previous seasons she’s not going to get anywhere near the criticism that Canetti or Walker received.

Thing is, she has no role whatsoever in the on the field product for the Dynamo. She has the business stuff, which hasn't been great, and the Dash, which has been a disaster. By all accounts Segal really likes her though, so.....
