Is this the first knockout or playoff game the Dash has ever played? I know they’ve never made the playoffs but have they ever played a game of consequence in a tourney?
NWSL 2020 Challenge Cup Knockouts Quarterfinals: Friday, July 17 (1) North Carolina Courage 0-1 (8) Portland Thorns (4) Houston Dash 0-0 (pks 3-2) (5) Utah Royals Saturday, July 18 (2) Washington Spirit v. (7) Sky Blue FC 11:30 am (3) OL Reign v. (6) Chicago Red Stars 9:00 pm Semifinals are on July 22.
I think it is the first. They played some round-robin style preseason tournaments but those didn't have any knockout games.

The NWSL is getting an LA team in 2022. https://www.nwslsoccer.com/news/art...e-awards-expansion-team-rights-to-los-angeles Other investors include: Racing Louisville FC will be joining NWSL in 2021 to make 10 teams. Louisville is connected to the USL Championship team, Louisville City, and will play at their new 10,000 seat stadium. They have not announced a LA venue for games. The Galaxy and LAFC stadiums are possible.
With MIa Hamm joining in on this new L.A. franchise, she and her husband Nomar Garcia Parra are joint investors with Will Ferrell and Magic Johnson as owners of L.A. FC. Thus, their stadium would appear the odds on favorite for this new NWSL team to play at.
Very cool to hear about more NWSL expansion in LA along with the Indianapolis franchise coming in next year. Would be great to see the Dash advance tomorrow to the finals? Portland is a tough team though despite their crummy group matches.
Absolutely! I am very happy to witness growth of the beautiful game in our sports culture. This expansion for the women's side of the pro game also grows the footprint for their league. I do wish our owners really could dig deeper and fund our Dash with more intent on being the best over just rounding out the numbers. As we have hashed out over the years that it appeared when we went into the NWSL in the beginning it was to help the league have a team in Region III over really wanting to have a team at all. DASH ON!!!
I meant to say Louisville, not Indianapolis. The soon Louisville NWSL franchise is associated with the great men's Louisville USL team which is fan driven and their new stadium looks like it will be a beaut.
SPOILER ALERT: You can read this if you highlight below for the Semi-Final result? Our DASH have made it to their very first ever Cup Final!!!!!! Houston Dash1 - 2 - 1, 1 - 0 - 1 home 1-0 f Wed, Jul 22 Portland Thorns FC0 - 1 - 3, 0 - 1 - 1 away

Are all of the whiners and moaners and primadonnas gone from the Dash? If it’s down to only those who want to be in Houston then let’s go! BTW, would be the most Dynamo/Dash thing ever to win this tourney missing a lot of players after never making the playoffs and have the FO talk about having a “championship organization” (still think think the BLM and anthem and social justice crap puts a low ceiling on this league, I predicted it would be gone, if US Soccer pulls funding it is in trouble)

Brener checking off the boxes, “congrats James, now do you think we can win next year with 65% of the salary and busing to all road games?” James Clarkson just said in his postgame news conference that Gabriel Brener flew to Utah for today's game. https://t.co/VI2lUVG3C9— Jonathan Tannenwald (@thegoalkeeper) July 26, 2020
I mean, I guess if you consider missing the playoffs for every season in their existence as qualifiying them to be the “team that almost gets there”, that’s one way of looking at it Gabriel Brener (@g_brener), controlling owner, after watching his @HoustonDash celebrate winning the NWSL Challenge Cup, on where this moment stacks up for him: “There is a certain place in my heart and in all of the owners’ hearts for the Dash.
