My guess would be he asked about an extension. Two weeks to practice seems a bit late to be coming to this decision.
Its a great shout but why would anyone like that want that job? BC hasn't shown willingness to compete on the same level as the rest of the ACC in resources (yet).
An ACC job is an ACC job for someone looking to continue to progress their career. He has taken Bryant from a nobody to one of the top programs in the country, I think he would figure it out.
I think Coach Calipari said it best "Coaches win games, Admin win championships". He's done an amazing job at Bryant and is one of the top tier coaches in the country - this isn't to knock him at all. But the playing field is no longer even (9.9 scholarships used to be the standard - it isn't anymore). Unless you have full buy-in from admin (like a lot of those ACC schools do have) you're battling uphill. Now maybe the hire of a new basketball coach signals intent? But only time will tell.
But no. Boston College hasn't done anything in athletics in 35 years or so, going back to their BE days. In the last 10 years not counting 2020 BC men's soccer has wone 53 games. That's 5 games per season, with no winning seasons. All programs are not the same BC has shown an unwillingness to support almost all of their olympic sports going back to the mid 90s at least. BC got in the ACC due to their academics and their location and not the prowess of their athletic department. Most setting HCs wouldn't touch this job with a 10 foot pole.
OOO WoW, two out of thirty-one programs are healthy and nationally competitive. The truth is BC was already noncompetitive in the BE and moving to the ACC just enhanced the glare so much more, They are in the same boat as Rutgers in the B10. I have no dog in this fight and don't hate BC. I wish their admin weren't so inept.
And they had the same coach for what 7 or 8 of those last 10 years? Ed Kelly had some good runs in the NCAA tournament. So many on this forum use admin as a scapegoat for bad coaching and bad recruiting. Good coaches find ways to get it done regardless. You think Bryant has top ten in the country resources?
BC went deep in the NCAA a few decades ago, with USNT Charlie Davies, Bedoya, AM Reuben Aryana and I liked their LB Gersterner (?)
Depends on how far you want to go back in history... Off the top of my Head - Virginia, UNC, SMU, (Formerly) BC, Michigan State, Indiana (not directly - but the next best thing). I imagine there are others out there?

Bobby Muuss was also a longtime assistant at Wake before going to Denver then returning to replace the guy he worked under in Jay Vidovich In my opinion, hires like that and Indiana should be considered under this definition of "internal hires"
I think so. WF lost Muus as an asst while he got head coaching experience and came back when the HC spot opened up.
