A lot of experience as an assistant coach at all levels and an alum. Hope that transfers into success as a Head Coach at a place that it has been very difficult to win. Not much success as a Head Coach at the USL level but back at his alma mater so hopefully can get it done.

This has been a very quiet coaching carousel this year.

That's the model for mid-majors. Successful D2 guys with lots of International recruiting experience. It seems to be an effective path considering both teams that were in the finals this year.

It goes much lower than that as well at other institutions that will require much more demands.

My impression is EIU is a pretty tough spot (small town, small and shrinking state school with iffy financial support, ...) after having some good history two or three decades back. Schellas Hyndman was there before SMU, right?
I want to say the new coach a coach or two ago said in the news release when he was hired that, basically, we're trying to build back up from a bad place and players should know what they're getting into.
Does that ring true for you?

I know the place well. It was one of two programs (Western Illinois, the other) that were the only two DI programs with one coach over men's and women's soccer programs just a couple years ago. They both were victim of the Illinois budget crunching and there was legitimate talk of the institutions closing, while they probably did incur some major budget cuts.

EIU hasn't been relevant since early 2000s.

It's probably the epitome of a school carrying a program that shouldn't ever do it. Or, if NCAA would permit it, allow a program to just play DIII with the way they're choosing to fund it.

At that salary, More of a side hustle than an actual job.

That is exactly right. The pay isn’t always glamorous. It’s more of the perks of the job and sometimes expectations that make college coaching attractive for some.

I knew someone a few years ago who worked a couple of jobs so her husband could be a fulltime unpaid assistant for a couple of years at what was then a Power 5 school as he tried to land a paid position elsewhere (and eventually did).

Someone can correct me if I overstate how widespread this may be, but even head coaches at DII/III programs I've had exposure to have side jobs as directors of coaching at youth clubs (or just plain club coaches). Given that EIU salary, the same seems likely true for lower-level DI programs. I have no idea whether there's an equivalent for other sports.

Many schools' coaches take on club jobs too. I know a HC in an OK conference where the program is funded and coaches at a local club that is in one of the national club platforms.

D3 coaches at good schools get paid much more than D1 coaches at struggling programs. Coaches should not have to coach clubs at Division I to make a living. Camps I understand because the summer is not an area to take away from the team.

Great get for Air Force!!! I believe Dalby has family in Colorado--so between that and the questionable state of OSU (conference, support etc) I think that a smart move for him. Will be interesting to see what happens at OSU next.

Family played a big role, according the OSU AD's press release.
