ESPN reports Hoppe to stay at Schalke: https://www.espn.com/soccer/blog-transfer-talk/story/4304191/transfer-deadline-day-live-all-the-latest-news-and-gossip 11.19 GMT: U.S. teenager Matthew Hoppe is set to extend his stay at Schalke 04 until 2023, sources have told ESPN's Stephan Uersfeld. The 19-year-old has enjoyed an impressive campaign and contributed five goals in his first nine Bundesliga appearances. With his existing deal set to expire this summer, Hoppe is set to sign a new three-year deal at Schalke, valid for both the Bundesliga and 2.Bundesliga, sources said.
The deal is through '23. He has some security, now. And if for the rest of the season, he performs well enough then he'll likely get a move to remain in the B1.
A bit of comfort/security with opportunities ahead. Not bad. It's not like Bayern was knocking down his door. Now he just needs to stay focused on finishing.

That pic of Hoppe on Twitter got me curious about his height. Wikipedia says he's 6'3". OK, send that young man to header training.

Try to remember the Hoppe story the next time people try and convince you a hat trick in a top 5 league is no big deal.
This kid has a bright future. If we got desperate at striker I'd have no problem putting this kid in the middle flanked by Pulisic and Reyna when we get the A team together. He's got definite poacher qualities combined with some serious ball skills. At worst he's a great wing option off the bench behind the aforementioned dynamic duo.
Someone didn't look at the date of the comment they responded to... July 17 or right after the 6-1 ROMP. We certainly don't have enough hat tricks in top 5 leagues to ever look down our noses at such a feat, three in our entire history (Dempsey, Pulisic, Hoppe)... so it's not really shocking that all three are/were relevant players for the USMNT.
the Forward pool has been a bit of an amoeba for me. Up to this point, there has not been a player that I would have chalked in to LOCK territory. Until now. Hoppe is my first forward on the roster that is a LOCK. The dogfight behind him is there with Sarg, Dike, Pefok, Pepi, Cowell, and hopefully a few of them develop into reliable options up top as well, but Hoppe just jumped into "pack your bags" territory
One thing I like about Hope vs. Sarge or Dike is that I’m more excited about his ability to play with and combine with Pulisic and Reyna. He’s more dynamic than the other options.
Hoppe and Weah both deserve to be in the WCQ 23. I will be sad when one is left out and Lleget or some equally boring forward is there instead.
