3/5/03 My thoughts for the last several days... My top 20 hopes, targets, and wishes for MLS 2003 (in no particular order): 1) Players to reach the included level of goal scoring: Ruiz 25, Mathis 20, Donovan 15, Quaranta 10, and Etcheverry 5. 2) Etcheverry to make 20 assists. 3) Jason Kreis to post a 15-15 season. 4) Tim Howard to record 15 shutouts. 5) Bocanegra to score 5 goals on corner kicks. 6) Moreno and Wolff to play at least 25 games each. 7) Earnie Stewart to win the MVP award. 8) Los Angeles to win the Champions Cup, DC to win the Open Cup, and San Jose to win the MLS Cup. 9) Los Angeles to average 25,000+ per game at home with the All-Star Game and MLS Cup being smashing successes. 10) Justin Mapp to absolutely terrorize teams by attacking from the flanks and Jon Conway to get a chance to start in goal for the Earthquakes. 11) Clint Mathis to start consistently wearing his "I Love NY" t-shirt again, exposing it after ripping off his jersey during goal celebrations. 12) Alexi Lalas to score an important goal and climb the hill at Victoria Street (like the famous run at Cal-State Fullerton). 13) Agoos to grow his hair back; Donovan to start dying his again. 14) For Chicago, Dallas, and New York to get new soccer specific stadiums and several new investors to put money into MLS. 15) For MLS to add Toronto as one of the two new expansion cities. 16) Uncle Phil to be fine when the dust settles at Qwest. 17) Alecko Eskandarian to contest Santino Quaranta for a starting spot at forward. 18) The Screaming Eagles to bounce the stands up and down like never before. 19) Jimmy Conrad to earn no yellow or red cards. 20) Lagerway to write consistently.
