Big Surprise, no show today 14 July 04, I will expound more on this tomorrow, those of you who know me and Flav know how frustrated we are with this situation, it pains me to have to write this trash, I may have had the big nervous break down we have all been waiting for today. The show is not dead, but some things WILL change, more than likely it will be the call letters. I apologize, and want to thank everybody who showed up at Mike's last Saturday, HUGE success, it was the one bright spot for the show this year, I hope we can continue to support Mike, the next big event will be the All-Star game, more details later on everything, excuse me, while I go drowned myself, in other words,.... I'll be at Mike's.
Since I can't call it in. Here it is. Flat Back Four for 7-14-2004 #1 -- Remember Beckham's penalty kick? Rumor has it that the young Spaniard who caught Beckham's kick in Row Q during England's loss to Portugal in Euro 2004 has put the ball up for auction on eBay. I went to see if it was true and was unable to find it. But according to my source, as of a few days ago, it was going for about £6,000. And the bidding supposedly ends July 22. # 2 -- Arsenal started something. Everyone knows how the Gunners went unbeaten on their way to winning the EPL last season. Now some American teams are trying to do the same. Too bad this is not happening in MLS or the A-League. With only two or three more weeks left in the PDL and W-League seasons, eight teams could finish unbeaten. In the PDL, both the Chicago Fire Reserves and the South Jersey Barons remain unbeaten. Chicago stands at 15-0-1, while the Barons are 12-0-4. In the W League, the teams which remain unbeaten are the Fort Wayne Fever Women, Chicago Cobras, Ottawa Fury, New Jersey Wildcats, and Vancouver Whitecaps Women. It should be interesting to see the result of the July 23 match between Fort Wayne and Chicago. That match could end someone's unbeaten streak or be the only tie for both clubs. # 3 -- Well, Christian Miles got it right this week. Besides being a wise enough man to read my email on Fox Sports World Report last night, Mr. Miles talked about what a remarkable job KC and Bob Gansler are doing. Without their top two scorers from last year, this team is just two points out of first place with a game in hand and has the second best record in all the league. Miles went on to point out that of the players who deserve All-Star selections but did not get them, Davy Arnaud is more than deserving. #4 -- Burned, then Hot. Jeff Cassar got toasted by Texan Davy Arnaud one week, then was the toast of Texas the next in his sensational performances against San Jose and Columbus. What's in store for this week? He's probably going to get burned again as King Davy and the Wizards visit the Cotton Bowl. Pass the torch back, will ya? #5 -- From the Bench, a Substitute The biggest game of soccer in Georgia in 2004? I guess the Silverbacks do have some important games this year. With their record at 11-3-1, they are tied for first in the Eastern Conference of the A-League. And in case you didn't know, MLS MVP for 2001, Alex Pineda-Chacon, plays for Atlanta now and is having a nice season. The Silverbacks player to watch is Forward Mac Cozier, who in 15 appearances has 9 goals and 3 assists for 21 points. That's one more point than the little fish has for L.A. Wizards at Atlanta Silverbacks Tuesday night at 7:45. Can't wait to READ about it.
Since I can't call in, Glad to know KC is still the Bitch of the league in the eyes of the MLS management, coaches and fans. How can the piss poor San-ho's get four starters on the all star team and KC can't get a single one? How is that even remotely possible? And this is great about Salt Lake City getting an expansion team. I can hardly wait for the anti-morman chants that will be sang. Should be a fun team to jeer at. Best of luck Kent, and Flavio. I hope you all get on a decent station soon.
Hopefully the show will be back soon. So many great things have been happening for the Wizards. A lot to talk about. Hopefully Mike will keep the faith and show up a little higher on the radio dial if all goes well. Any time table? Forgot to ask that after the game. Great time after the DC game in lot B. Kent, you need to work on your foot skills. Luckily you and I don't need foot skill to be able to talk soccer on the radio.
Why don't you make your own thread that you can update each week when you get it ready? Somewhat like the All-American XI that goes out weekly. Only yours will actually not be a 3 week late bandwagon-hopping pile of rubbish.
Yeah, KC's worst Cup failure was a road game (SF Bay Seals) with no live link of any kind. I can also remember another upset that Marty had to relay to me over the phone after several calls and other failed attmepts to get a 'net article. KC hasn't had anyone dominate the defensive space yet. I think the question will be scoring. KC is .500 on the road in the league so far with a +1 GD.
That may even be a problem. Since the tower was hit by lighting they have just been able to get the station back up and not been able to take calls.
Obviously Kent didn't know that we couldn't call in today due to the station's technical difficulties. Kent -- we will call in when it is possible. My Flat Back Four is online.
Yeh I called in too, and got the message from the phone person with the info about the tower. Kent we still care! Honest!
Kent Couple of inaccuracies on your show last night. You were discussing the Copa America semis, but had the match ups wrong. Argentina played Colombia and Brazil played Uruguay. You had them the wrong way round. Minor detail but if you are hosting a radio show about our beloved sport you can't afford to get stuff like this wrong and retain credibility. Second, when discussing the Adu effect, the crowd at Arrowhead was 26,000+ not 28,000+. Again, minor detail but accuracy is important. Third, why no discussion of the upcoming Champs World Series??
