Man, I just got back from the Rapids game with the Galaxy and, in my mind, its safe to say there were more Koreans in attendance than hispanics.

It was odd. It had to have been the most Koreans I've seen anywhere, not trying to be offensive here. They all came to see Hong Myung-Bo.

I had no idea Denver even had a large Korean population, yet they were there. They even waved South Korean flags, wore South Korean jerseys and banged drums and tamborines and cheered whenever he touched the ball.

For curiosity's sake, has this same phenomena occured elsewhere in the league?

I'd contend that Hong Myung-Bo is the best foreign acquisition to MLS to date.

while watching the G's vs. metros game i could hear a lot more G's fan (HMB fans) then metros fans... the closest we got to a home game (besides SJ).

I do remember a match at RFK where you might have been confused who the home team was for a moment when he scored.

Here in LA we are hoping, though, that the Korean fans will wear Galaxy gear instead of red. Especially when the other team has red as their color.
I guess we will find out soon.

    It was crazy to see.

I had no idea the World Cup elation had carried over so much for them. Or even that Bo was so well known in the Korean community.

If they show up in Denver, they'll show up in LA. Get some jerseys with "Bo" on the back and I'd bet they get sold pretty quickly.

Ruiz is good, if not great. But Bo has 100+ caps for the Korean Nats and his performance in Korea/Japan was unforgettable.

World Cup Bronze Boot Winner. After Kahn and Ronaldo? Impressive.

We have the largest Korean community of all here (excluding Korea ..duh).
They will show up in mass all year. I hope they take to the team also, and I suspect they will, and it won't just be screams everytime he touches the ball. I'm sure it will be that way for a bit.

Peter Nowak has been a pretty good one too. Both in the ethnic draw and on the field.

Which game was that? Ruiz has never scored at RFK. LA's visit there last year ended in a 1-0 loss.

You may be thinking of Cienfuegos.

I remember watching the Galaxy playing at DC and it seemed like there was a huge crowd of Galaxy fans. They were all El Salvadorians and cheering for Cienfuegos.

If by good acquisition you mean getting an ethnic population interested in MLS, then yes he is a fine acquisition. If you want actual performance, then no, but I will say he played well last night. Funny how his best game was the one when he was playing his preferred position.

There was a relatively small section in KC. They were there to cheer a player whom one year ago was getting rave reviews at the WC, but now getting turned around 3 consecutive times by someone who's almost 40. :D

I have it on tape so I guess I'll have to check.
I thought he had scored at every stadium and he was only missing Columbus until he scored there this year.

My dad and my brother went to the Metros/Galaxy game at the Meadowlands to see "Bo". Of course New York has one of the largest Korean populations in the country, and New Jersey has a fair amount, so there were lots of Koreans at the game. He also told me that there were a lot of Hispanics rootin for Ruiz. I guess it's good for the league to have a recognized star drawing more people. But it sure as hell must suck for the home team when there are more supporters rootin for the one away guy or something.
