Hong Kong ended their Tri Nations Cup campaign with a draw against the hosts Fiji which was enough to secure the title. Despite conceding a goal in the first half, it was substitute Matt Orr who came to the rescue during the second half as he scored the equaliser. There are some questions regarding to some of the referee decisions especially when he gave a yellow card to Chan Siu Kwan and Yue Tsz Nam.
RTHK full match Hong Kong vs Fiji Hong Kong's 4-3-3 formation was clearly not working against hosts Fiji's 4-4-2. The HK midfield was clearly outrun and out classed. Wu Chun-Ming was ineffective as the holding midfielder. He was outnumbered in midfield and had no skills to solve his problems. At this level he is not good enough. Michael frequently dropped back to help out was a clear indication that the midfield was being outnumbered. If we lost another goal in the first half I am sure he would have been substituted even earlier. Only when Sun Ming-Him and Wong Wai came on and we kinda switched to a 4-4-2 did we begin to play well. (I wonder if Westwood made that call?) Matt Orr's strike was the only shot I can remember but fortunately he scored. Hopefully Westwood will come up with a strategy that suits Hong Kong.
Senior Challenge Shield first round KC Southern 3:0 Kowloon CIty FC Two former Macau based foreigners scored for KC Southern. I am surprised Stefan Pereira was not called up to the HK national team.
Eastern FC 5:1 North District Eastern almost completely dominated the match. They now head to Sydney for their ACL2 group match against FC Sydney on 19 Sep. For those who played in Fiji this past Sunday, like Yapp Hung-Fai and Ma Hei-Wai, this is their second trip to Oceania in a little more than one week.

Au Yeung Yiu-Chung actually came on the field for once as an injury time substitute for Kamatamare Sanuki. He only played a few minutes but he hopes he can gain more playing time in the club's remaining 11 matches.
HKFC 1:3 BC Rangers. Lau Chi-Lok scored a hat-trick. North District 2:3 Kowloon CIty FC. Kowloon CIty FC registered its first HKPL win.
Not a good start for the current HKPL champions as Lee Man's ACL2 campaign got off to a losing start as Nam Dinh FC got the better of them as they scored two goals which gave the Vietnamese club their first three points. Eastern who are currently in Australia will play Sydney FC in tomorrow's fixture.
It was quite clear that some players were unfit for the match, like Anier, Rosa and Paulissen. Also it seemed strange for the coaching team to substitute Everton Carmago when he was one of the better players at the front. Lee Man also appeared top heavy, with the attacking half stronger than the defending half. It does not seem to have a balanced team. They have quite some work to do.
Sydney FC 5:0 Eastern FC A thrashing was expected and Eastern put on a reasonable fight. But IMHO players like Leung Chun-Pong are too old for this.
Tai Po 1:1 KC Southern District Kitchee 8:0 BC Rangers. The former champions finally seemed to get into gear. Lee Man 3:1 HKFC. The champions scored a good home win. Kowloon City FC 1:1 Eastern SC. Kowloon City almost managed a surprise win until the very, very last minute. I think they played too negatively in the end and did not deserve the win.
https://www.scmp.com/sport/football...ht-out-bonding-experience-coach-westwood-says Yet another drinking story involving Hong Kong. I don't think this one is serious, but I can understand why the unnamed coach (going to guess it's Chino) was unhappy that one of his players (going to guess it's Jesse) came back a little worse for wear.
Lee Man 2:1 BC Rangers After Kitchee beat Rangers 8:0, I thought Lee Man would have an easy game. It wasn't easy at all. Now Lee Man travels to Singapore with an exhausted squad to face Tampine Rovers.
Northern District 0:3 Tai Po. Tai Po wins in this New Territories derby. HKFC 0:2 Kowloon City. Kowloon City is not doing too bad at all in its rookie season.
Anthony Pinto and Ho Dong-Lam scored the goals for HK. HK finished the qualifiers in third place behind Qatar and Jordan.
I believe this is the Hong Kong U20's first win in five years and even though they got thrashed by Jordan in their first game followed by a loss to Qatar in their second, at least they got a result against Singapore. Next month will be the turn of the U17s as they will face a rather daunting task in their quest to qualify for their second AFC U17 finals appearance which I do not expect Takuro Hosaka's side to achieve much looking at the teams within their group.
Hong Kong, China Representative Team will participate in two International Friendly Matches with Liechtenstein and Cambodia, at Liechtenstein and Hong Kong, from 7 to 15 October 2024. The final squad with 23 players is as follows: Goalkeepers: YAPP Hung Fai (Eastern), NG Wai Him (Kwoon Chung Southern), TSE Ka Wing (Tai Po) Defenders: SUN Ming Him (Cangzhou Mighty Lions), Oliver Benjamin GERBIG (Dalian Yingbo), Alexander Christian JOJO (Eastern), Fernando Augusto AZEVEDO PEDREIRA, Leon JONES (Kitchee), CHOW Timothy Stephen (Lee Man), YUE Tze Nam (Meizhou Hakka), CHAN Shinichi (Shanghai Shenhua), Nicholas BENAVIDES MEDEIROS (Tai Po) Midfielders: LAM Hin Ting, YU Jesse Joy Yin (Eastern), NGAN Cheuk Pan, TAN Chun Lok (Kitchee), CHAN Siu Kwan Philip (Tai Po) Forwards: NG Yu Hei (Eastern), POON Pui Hin, SOARES BELITARDO JUNIOR Walter (Kitchee), Everton CAMARGO (Lee Man), ORR Matthew Elliot Wing Kai (Shenzhen Peng City F.C.), Michael Chibuikem UDEBULUZOR (VfR Mannheim)
I see that not only Fernando had been called up, but there is also a first senior team call up for Tai Po's Nicholas Benavides who had acquired a HKSAR passport last year who had been in decent form.
Tampine Rovers 3:1 Lee Man FC Lee Man FC played their strongest squad at the start while Tampine Rovers left some of their best players on the bench, only to unleash them in the second half. By then Lee Man FC was a spent force and had no one left to call upon.
