I was referring to Rodriguez. Guess I should have tied that sentence to its subject just a little bit.

Ah. In that case, Rodriguez was a Lucy Rushton signing, as he came in between Losada's firing and Rooney's hiring.

Side note: Lucy Rushton recently "resigned" from her gig in the NWSL. More questions than answers.

Never understood Pablo and others consistently hyping her up. She was far from the only problem when she was here but it’s pretty clear she’s not some genius who just couldn’t break through the DCU barrier of overarching ineptitude.

Just tuned into the match at Audi for a few minutes ... is that the *new* turf? 'Cause it definitely looks like ass.

Isn't she one of these new numbers analyst types? Where they evaluate passes attempted, completed, distance of pass, expected chances created, chances finished, who passes to whom, where are passes, tackles attempted, tackles won, etc... all then rolled up into a convenient number to evaluate players? You know like the "Money Ball" analysis in baseball or how video games handle sports.

I don't buy into the utility in football because of the huge swings in success based on goals, which come at a premium. Goals are such a low percentage event and unlike baseball where you are guaranteed 3 chances per inning, there are no guarantees in football. It isn't even as predictable as American football, where you get four chances every possession.

I think analytics have a place, I just think the eye test is more important.

I am a Math nerd, took Pre-Calc, Clac and Stats calls all at once. I am ok with Moneyball in baseball but it does not translate very well to Football/Soccer.

So Selwin Brown reffed the Philly-Mazatlan match last night and on cue, he red carded a Philly player in the first half. Asshat. BTW, Andre Blake was on fire last night. A miracle save in regulation and stopped two PKs in the shoot out. Philly will be tough the rest of the way if he remains healthy -- 5-0-1 since his return.

Had the pleasure of watching the Leagues' Cup final last night. Wilfried Nancy is the best coach in MLS and Columbus is the class of the league. After watching the DCU shitshow on Saturday, it was a real palette cleanser to watch the Spirit and Columbus play yesterday. Two class teams, two very good coaches. While Levien & Co. are asshats of biblical proportions, I can't imagine the special region of Hell populated by Montreal fans. Nancy was the coach up there and could take only one year of the pompous gasbag Joey Saputo. Sometimes you can feel a bit better just knowing that someone has it worse.

Its positively vomit inducing where Columbus has gotten itself with 5 years of good ownership. They've built a palace of a stadium and what have we got? We've been left with Wayne Rooney's dingleberries and a bunch of 1% owners. They've won 2 MLS Cups, Champeones Cup and last night the MLS Participation Cup. I joke about leagues cup, but its infinitely more substantive than the Capitol City Africa Cup that we'll raise and celebrate in front of dozens of people while the club tries to take photos of the celebration to make it seem like anyone showed up.

A personal side note from Saturday's game, DC United has now given us more towels than my mother-in-law, which is quite a feat.

But, does Columbus count the "King of Gas Stations" as one of its owners?

Considering who owns the Crew, their success is hilarious.
