The basic story on the films (Bender is the high-profile producer): Hollywood set to Bender it like Beckham (Reuters) The story about ManU and Newcastle and the films: The Guardian: United look to hijack Hollywood deal (The Guardian story is from last month, but may shed some light on the reference in today's report about EPL clubs.)
Well, Kenyon is gone and was the chief instigator in trying to horn in on this deal, so that bodes well for Newcastle. I think the young lad should go to Harchester United instead though.
My only question: how does this Latino kid from LA rate a work permit? And if Bobby Convey just changes his name to Roberto con Voy can he get one too?
It says if it's sponsored by Adidas it'll probably start in Argentina. So is he going to play for Argentina in the film? And if Nike sponsors it, will he be a native born U.S. citizen? Just curious. I'll watch it either way, as long as the story is good.
They should have the Galaxy in the movie too. It would promote MLS a tad. Afterall, the point of the movie is to gain more American fans...and MLS is the division one league here. It would make sense. But of course there's no way in hell they'd have any MLS clubs in a major film like that.
It would be a nice consequence (sp). Although if it is a hit for the rest of the world, being FIFA involved, and it shows in every country that loves soccer, wouldn't that be good enough for the investment?
Last night's FSW Report had clips from the press conference. Bender basically outlined the plot - kid from East LA makes it to England against all the odds. He mentioned that the story would have the kid's family scraping together their measly savings to send him to England, where, amazingly, he manages to eventually find his way to a big club. Obviously, the plot may change a bit, but it sounded like what would get him to England would be his family's savings, not a stellar season with the Galaxy. But who knows.
