Great draw for the Oranje (better than what could have been) but it won't easy. The added bonus is that the 2nd leg is in Holland. I predict 0-0 in the 1st leg and then 2-0 for Holland in the 2nd. If Holland can't beat Scotland, the Oranje don't deserve to go to Euro 2004.
Bluedaddy The last 5 results are: 1992 Euro: Holland 1-0 Scotland 1994 Friendly (in Scotland): Scotland 0-1 Holland 1994 Friendly (in Holland): Holland 0-0 Scotland 1996 Euro: Holland 0-0 Scotland 2000 Friendly (In Holland): Holland 0-0 Scotland So I don't think it will be easy but I expect Holland to win. I imagine what will happen is that the Oranje will control the games for long stretches but have trouble scoring. As long as they don't get frustrated, the should be able to win it. Course my preference would be 5-0 wins for Holland in both games.
And it won't be easy. Dickie will make it interesting for the entire 180 minutes of football. Windycity is right by saying that most possession will be by NL but have difficulty scoring. If we lose 1-0 in Glasgow we could be screwed.
McBerti will probably get some advice from Martin O'neill about spanking the little genital all the best boys should be a good couple of matches if nothing else.
scotland was better in the '90's - when the chips were down, they scraped into the playoff by beating lithuania 1-0... LITHUANIA scotland sucks
Did you see the match? it was nervy and we didnt play particularly well until we got the goal, lithuania arent as bad as youre making out either. We actually got into the playoffs by beating iceland home and away id argue.
On paper, the Oranje are certainly better. But on paper Holland is better than Ireland too and we saw what happened in WC 2002 qualifying (mind you, I think Ireland is somewhat better than Scotland). The problem is that games are not played on paper. Holland should go through but it won't be easy. If the Oranje can keep their cool and not get frustrated (getting an early goal at Hampden would be ideal) in not scoring, then the Oranje should eventually score and get through.
that's what happens when davids gets a red 15 minutes into the big match with the czechs - i suppose spain and turkey aren't any good either
no i didn't, i was at the germany-iceland match - i did see other qualifiers however and this scotland team does not even seem the sum of its parts, which ain't a whole lot to begin with - the 90's scotland teams had some fire in 'em and often played way above their heads oh and lithuania are dreadful, give me a break! good point on the iceland wins though
Televised in the US? Hopefully the matches will be televised in the US via Satellite since Scotland is playing. I coudn't see any of the Oranje's qualifying matches (very glad I didn't see the Prague disaster).
Re: Televised in the US? 1-i'd say you had a good shot at that, setanta maybe? 2-actually HOLLAND were the better side for much of the night and always looked like getting the equalizer - the disaster was edgar getting two yellows in a quarter hour (though one was highly questionable) and giving the opening PK - baros added the insurance very late in stoppage with van der sar up in the czech area for a CK
Blue Yeah Sentata will hopefully show it. I would have gone mental if I'd seen the Prague game, especially after Edgar was shown the door. It was a disaster in the sense that everything that could go wrong in the first 30 minutes did. Watching the Oranje trying hard to get the equalizer would have killed me.
Having seen them play us twice and witnessed them draw in germany id disagree, they beat us by a dodgy penalty over there but they were cool on the ball and attempted to play good passing football, not a great side but considering who they are definately not as bad as youre making them out to be.
Other than the real minnows like Andorra, San Marino etc., I don't think ayone in Europe is truly dreadful anymore.
Ah the last line of defence if you've got no comebacks, complaining about refereeing decisions. Face it, Holland are not that great. You didn't qualify for the 2002 World Cup, and you're in the 2004 European Championship play-offs. Wait a minute... that's exactly the same as Scotland's record too! Looks like we "suck" just as bad as each other, then?
