That's the type of goal that will make him a Bolton legend. Derby game against a hated rival they haven't beaten in a while, their former manager is celebrating his team's late equalizer like a spaz and Stu scores a beautiful winner 10 seconds later to shut him up.
Stuart Holden's reputation iin England is slowly building up. He's one of those players that don't grab your attention staright away. If he keeps it up to the end of this season and has a simalirly solid seaosn next year, then he would really have arrived in the Prmeiership (and by that I mean having the big boys knocking at his door). That said I think I said back in 2008 that he was the player that had most impressed had got the best write-up outside of the USA in that years olympics.
One of the best YA goals I've ever seen. Truly class. Holden's been such a great story. It really seems like he should have had a greater role at the WC. On a side note, does anyone understand the Russian in the rutube video above? At first I didn't' think it was Russian but it is I"m pretty sure, but with some weird accent.
Coyle's voodoo juju is the secret to Bolton's success. I wonder what he does with Holden... [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ytoofAJim0Q&feature=player_embedded"]YouTube - Owen Coyle - Pitch Tampering?[/ame]
It's Russian. I didn't really notice the accent being particularly weird. Maybe his voice, but not really his accent. He doesn't say anything remarkable. Commenting mostly on how remarkable it was that the goal came so quickly after Blackburn's.
Slowly? You've got a BBC writer saying he deserves considering for Player of the Year and Bolton's own fans think he will be purchased by a bigger club after 1-2 years- they won't be able to keep him. He's only been in the league less than 1/2 a season really (given he hardly played last spring). I'd call that a rocket ship of recognition!
if he can hold, this has to be one of the fastest rises of any Am. in the EPL. I think you have to go back to Joe Max-Moore and his toffee days - and Joe-Max was more of a known quantity when he went there.
I think slower than people think. He's exceeded all expectations this season, but he's not that well known outside of the Bolton. Other players, particualrly Elmander, have got more recognition for Bolton's success so far. I think only those who've being paying particualr attention to him are aware exactly how well he's done. Today's goal is the high point so far of his season. His repuation is building, but it's more of a slow but steady thing.
watching the muppets as a child, i never figured that beaker would father a child that would one day play professional soccer
I think to the people who truly understand the game and for those who matter (scouts, coaches, etc), they have seen his quality since the end of last season. Having said that, it is nice to see him get the recognition from a broader audience.
