Oh and btw, and drink it up fairly quickly. Nama-zume means once pasturized, most sakes are pasturized twice to enhance shelf life, but the additional pasturization detracts from the freshness of the taste.
I went to the Uni there for a year abroad in 98-99. Lived up on Ffridd site off of Ffriddoedd Rd in Upper Bangor. Was also on the sailing team so go to Port Dinowic/ Y Fenheli between Bangor and Caernarvon a bunch. Learning how to deal with the ripping tides of the Menai Straits was a challenge for sure.
Great story. Sailing the Menai Straits really must have been a challenge no matter the time of tide. I raced every week on the Puget Sound. Easy preasy. Local knowledge was the bet there. It must have been fun as well as eye opening to be schooled in North Wales. Foreign Country, different outlook on life, interesting language. a lot of Americans would have a hard time. My cousin lives in Conwy, I’d jump the Ferry across the Mersey and ride my bike there for a Sunday ride.
When I went to Okinawa briefly in 1992 when I was in the Marines, I saw bottles of Habu saki for sale. It has a snake in the bottle. I wanted to buy some but is was way out of my price range. I don't think I would buy it now though. Ethically, it's messed up. Photo lifted from reddit.
Yeah it was a learning experience for a kid who was used to racing in a calm waters of Southern California. Our idea of foul weather gear was a sweatshirt. But I loved Wales and the whole island from the start. I think I feel more at home in the UK than parts of the US. Was also pretty cool living in a community where Welsh was still spoken quite regularly. Went to Liverpool in spring '24 to go to a couple of matches with another Liverpool supporting friend from California. Went out to Conway one day to see the Castle and get some fish and chips. Which apparently is the most scouse thing ever.
I was just kidding around there really, but on the subject of snakes - People kill them so as not to have them in their gardens? Is a garden any more necessary than a bottle of grog?
While i don;t disagree. It is a matter of perspective. For instance - if I came across a bottle of liquer where they killed mosquitos just to put them in the bottle I would have no empathy for the mosquitos' unnecessary decease. Similarly in the case of a rat (although I doubt I'd be drinking that one)
bunch of alkies on here stop the nonsense - this is what you need ..... https://www.debenhams.com/product/l...m2lkP2OcrUoQ-H-7prUR9Mpji_oUf9fyBr6qQyx3aisqb
This comment is for Menace to Sobriety.... Big evening coming up for the Lions. They sort of need this one in the bag goinginto the last 4 Jeez - this year's NFL is completely bizarro. Any of a dozen teams might now win the Superbowl... Anyway - good luck Detroit. I hate the bloody Cowboys
Not sure where to put this but my Alma Mater is playing tonight for a place in the "Final Four" aka the "College Cup" Go Pilots!
Terps play on Saturday for the same - I believe. Edit - yep - at home in College Park against Univ of Washington. I believe my son already has his ticket - told my daughter to go too. They have really good crowds for the playoffs so far - like 3500-4000 per game.
Haha - USA World Cup draw - Paraguay, Australia, and playoff team. How much was Infantino bribed to make that happen??
