While reading through the free program at the Revs game, I noticed a page that took a quick look at MLS uniforms of seasons past. Pretty amusing when the jerseys were right next to each other. Must say the Crew have done the best job throughout the years. Anyone else happen to see this elsewhere? And, would someone be willing to throw some pictures up on a website for the total effect (I'll look around for pics in the meantime)?
Good Lord... As bad as some of the 96 uniforms were, nothing ever approached this: http://www.soccernova.com/ Click on ideas, then uniforms, then Louisville Leopards
There is a theory that when a person is exposed to horrors, not matter how terrible, they will eventually become resistant to them. That image proves the theory wrong.
Fortunately for DC United fans (and all other fans of decent uniforms as well), DC United made an agreement prior to the inaugural season which would keep the uniform (or at least the home uniform) the same for at least couple of seasons.       And fortunately for the rest of us, none of the other inaugural MLS teams made such an agreement with their uniform suppliers. -G
I kind of liked the Metros first tops. The black ones anyway. I wish they would stick the sponser in the front and get rid of the big logo though.
I wish all of the teams would go the route of having the shirt sponsor on the front, a small team logo somewhere, and please....take the team names off of the jerseys! Kudos to DC for having a traditional look.
Actually I believe all three adidas teams have introduced uniforms at the exact same times - with the exception that I know DC had a third jersey for a while - whereas the Wizards never have.
DC Home: 1996-2001 (with the change in 1998 to the new logo. Placement of the adidas has also varied). 2002-2003 DC Away: 1996-1997 (reverse of the home kit) 1998-1999 (three vertical stripes down the right, new eagle woven into the shirt) 2000-2002 (white w/red stripes, collar and cuffs) 2003 (reverse of the home kit, but with red side paneling) DC Third: 1996-98 ("Cat In The Hat" jersey. Navy w/red & white sleeves) 1999-2001 (black with white mesh sides and red stripes) 2002 -2003? (red w/white mesh underneath. Almost looks pink. Worn only in the Boca Juniors friendly. Don't know if it will be worn this year)
I think the only difference is that you *kept* your original jersey longer. That made some of your jerseys "3rd jerseys" while the Wizards only kept 2 active at any given time. 1996 black shoulder-midriff stripes 1996-1998 (reverse: white with shoulder-midriff stripes) 1998-1999 our Psychadelic Charlie Brown 2000-2002 ours was the solid blue one we won MLS Cup in. All 3 adidas teams replaced their 2000 shirts. 2003 blue with white side paneling your Cat in the Hat was in 1997 - all three adidas sides got the striped sleeves with the embossed team logo in the fabric. 1997 (our lifesaver sleeve jersey) 1999-2001 our white with horizontal rainbow stripes on the side panels In 2002 all three sides got one 2 layer mesh jersey 2002-2003 white with blue underlining
The Burn player is Ian Hennessey, who joined Metro mid-season and never played for the Burn. The Galaxy player is ex-Rev, Metro, Wizard, Crew John DeBrito. I belive (I could be wrong) that the Mutiny player's last name is Garcia, who played for Richmond? Minnesota? of the A-League and also starred in a long-forgotten shampoo commercial.
