This thread will include all the history making moments that occur during this WC!! Interesting fact that the game between Germany and Ghana made history because it was the first time two brothers played against each other Jerome Boateng for Germany and Kevin Prince Boateng for Ghana http://foreign.peacefmonline.com/sports/201006/51022.php http://g.sports.yahoo.com/soccer/wo...thers-together--fbintl_ro-boatengs062110.html

Michael Bradley is the 1st ever player to score a World Cup goal when his father is manager of his country.
Diego Forlan and his father Pablo Forlan are the first son-father in play two world cups (Diego 2002-2010) Pablo Forlan (1966-1974) on Uruguay & Fernando Muslera reach 270 minutes with clean sheet(over Ladislao Mazurkiewicz 269 in Mexico 70).
The Swiss set new record for number of minutes without conceding a goal. Until, Chil scored on them. Swizterland played 559 minutes without conceding a goal at the World Cup starting from their first game in 2006. The previous record of 550 minutes was held by Italy, set between June 17, 1986 and July 3, 1990.
So, has it ever happened before that the two finalists of a World Cup finished bottom in their group the next World Cup?
Cameroon did it in 1982. This is the first time in WC adidas-vs-Nike advisetment history where Umbre is featured in it. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=idLG6jh23yE"]YouTube- NIKE FOOTBALL WRITE THE FUTURE - FULL LENGTH VERSION[/ame]
Javier Hernandez scored the 2,100th goal in World Cup history (v. France) David James was the oldest player ever to make his World Cup debut (39 years 321 days) Carlos Alberto Parreira took the record outright for most WC appearances as a coach (6) and tied the record for most nations coached at a WC (5 - Kuwait, UAE, Brazil, Saudi Arabia, South Africa) Otto Rehhagel broke the record for oldest coach at a WC (71 years 317 days) Óscar Ruiz of Colombia tied the record for most WC tournaments as a referee (3)
I don't believe so. In 1934 Uruguay didn't participate and Argentina lost in the first round (it was a straight knockout format). In 1950 neither Italy nor the Czechs participated. I believe that they are the only other cases when neither of the previous finalists were in the second round of the tournament.
This doesn't actually change anything. A Half-Sibling is still a full Lawful Sibling and thus they are Brothers.
If groups G and H finish with the UEFA teams in their current positions (leading them to play off in the R16) then there will only be 3 UEFA Quarterfinalists this tournament. If this happens, will it be the fewest in history? I think it must be, even if it isn't an outright record. EDIT: Yes, for tournaments with QFs the previous record is 4 (2002 and 1970) - so we will at least tie that this time around.
I also do not seem to recall any team ever wearing black jeresy at the WC Finals. Did the Nazi Germans wear black? May be I was thinking of "Escape to Victory"?
I believe for a long time black was forbidden for teams by FIFA because it was reserved for the referees. I am not sure when this changed, but obviously not before the referees started wearing their multicoloured strips.
They started to use colorful uniform for referees in WC 1994. I started to see black 3rd jersey around the early 1990's.
Nazi Germany probably also played in white-black. Those were the Prussian colours, taken over by the German empire for their sports team when it was founded, and for sports teams they never changed (The German empire's flag was black-white-red, that flag replaced the black-red-gold the Weimar Republic used along with the swastika flag when the Nazis came to power, before the swastika got the sole German flag a few years later.
Germany's first kit has always been black and white, except for very early in the 1900s, when it was red and white.
I'm not sure that it has ever happened twice in the same World Cup, but am pretty sure it will be a first if we end up with three groups where the top two teams speak the same language: -- Uruguay & Mexico in Group A -- USA & England in Group C -- Brazil & Portugal in Group G (it hasn't happened yet, but is highly probable given the current goal differentials) Less likely, but still possible would be for Chile & Spain to end up 1 & 2 in Group H. It could happen, but I believe they'll need some help from Honduras.
Itumeleng Khune is the second goal keeper ever receiving a red card during a World Cup tournament. Gianluca Pagliuca of Italy was the first.
Someone will have to confirm this, but according to the FIFA MatchCast, Japan scored twice (in the same game) directly from a free kick in the match against Denmark (the last time this happened was 40 years ago).
This is the first time both prior finalists qualified but did not advance out of the group stage. In 1930 the finalists were Uruguay and Argentina. In 1934 Uruguay did not qualify and Argentina lost its first round game (The 1934 tournament was a straight 16-team single-elimination tournament). In 1938 the finalists were Italy and Hungary. After the 12 year break for the war in 1950 Hungary did not qualify and Italy did not get out if its group. In 1962 the finalists were Brazil and Czechoslovakia. In 1966 Czechoslovakia did not qualify and Brazil did not get out of its group. In every other World Cup until now at least one of the prior finalists made it out of the group stage.
