The final of the AFC Women's Asian Cup between Australia and Japan in Sydney that's just been played is credited a 70.000+ crowd in attendance. Should be quite high in the rankings, even these days, shouldn't it?

Yes and no... Matches between UANL, Monterrey, and América (sometimes including Pachuca and Guadalajara) typically draw much larger crowds than the league average. Playoff (Liguilla) matches, in particular, are heavily promoted. In the past, such high attendance figures for individual matches have occurred. At the same time, this year’s Clausura has seen a 25% increase in overall attendance compared to last year’s Apertura, so this isn’t coming out of nowhere. The matches on May 14 and 17 are the Clausura finals—they’re always well attended.
Can you dig into your resources to find the attendance at last year's Concacaf Women's Champions Cup Semifinals and Finals played at Estadio Universitario, Monterrey, that included the two local teams Tigres and Monterrey? I don't think those were sell-outs, but the capacity of that stadium (42,000) is higher than this year's venue (25,900). I'm interested to see if they can carry the enthusiasm of the Liguilla into this tournament--might be a clue into the growth of the support in Mexico. Thanks!

I'm dragging in this year-old post of yours @Lechus7 to illustrate that those great Liglla finals did not carry-over to the Concacaf games shortly thereafter, which included one of the participants in that tournament, held at the same venue. So given the contrasting turn-out for last years Ligilla and Concacaf games, I'll be interested in seeing what numbers we'll see tomorrow and the final. It may mean the Mexicans don't yet rate this tournament nor perhaps the opponents, or their clubs chances of winning. Or they could be saving their money for the many men's games as well. PS the date in the post I've quoted is for 2025 not 2024, just for clarity.
My perspective on this, from watching some of the matches, is that at least the NWSL clubs rate these matches as secondary to their league matches. So perhaps the competition has not yet reached a high status level.
I'd agree with this perspective in regard to the group stage because you only need to place second to advance, and the most difficult teams in each group (for the NWSL teams) is one from Liga MX and another NWSL team. A NWSL team can usually waltz by the Central American and Caribbean teams and can use a reserve-laden team. There's no sense in bringing too many starters to a midweek game in El Salvador, when you have a league game on the weekend during the stretch run to the playoffs. But the knockout round is taken seriously by at least Gotham (given there performances last year) Their management and coach want to set a high standard for their club to strive for international success, hence the major commitment in time, travel and money to train in Spain for a few weeks before the Fifa Champion Cup last January. The Concacaf Champion Cup also gets you into Women's Club World Cup in 2028, so I'd imagine Washington would be keen to win this tournament the next few days. There's also prize money involved in all these trophies. Finally, both teams are are on break from the league fixtures until May 30-31 and then begin their June break, so there really isn't a schedule conflict.
