Thought I would start a thread on this since my son is a Fr at Dublin Coffman. I know his school is usually good but I saw they lost 2-1 in OT to Hillard Davidson who lost in the state championship to St Ignatius.

How good is St Ignatius? They beat Coffman 9-1 last year and blew a lot of ppl out in state playoffs .

My son is a RM he scored a hat trick for JV vrs New Albany. I heard Gregg likes wingers so I'm thinking he has a chance

    Lol

Gregg prefers wingers that don't score, but can complete a lot of passes. How many passes did your son have against New Albany?

Lol I didn't get to see the gm unfortunately but his coaches told me he played very well on top of the gols. They were impressed that he was level headed and didn't brag or get excessively excited but was rather nonchalant. he is use to scoring lots of Gols,However he will talk big around his teammates and siblings this I'm sure of.

    Well, let's see:

    They're currently ranked #2.

    In the country.

Theyre returning seven starters from a team which beat the living crap out of everybody in the state last year.

Milhoan - last years Ohio POTY - a sure fire all american - spent the summer on the Challenger Crew Juniors team along with Patacca, Strauss, and Haas, making it all the way to the nationals.

They also have a pair of Crew Academy guys, Vrablic and Trickett, both juniors, coming in as well.

(They only lost two guys of note : the wonderful Lawrence Karpeh, who's plying for Pitt this Fall and looks exactly like a forward:

and slick middie Hayden Parente, who may not be playing anyplace at the moment.)

    How good is St Iggy's?

They might be the best Ohio high school team in a decade.

It's going to take God's own miracle to beat this insane outfit.

Maybe this has changed, but don't Academy players not play high school soccer? I thought the Academy league moved to a fall-spring schedule...

It's my understanding -someone can certainly correct me - that arrangements are made. I know that in many cases the Academy Club will let the player suit up and play for his high school team but still practice during the week with their Academy team.

Not surprisingly, the coaches don't seem to mind much.

All I can say in this case is that both those guys are on St Iggy's fall roster.

During the high school season players can't practice or play with a club team. If they are doing that they would be ineligible for the high school season.

Does that apply to private schools? They get away with a lot of bull$&#t when it comes to athletics.

It's an OHSAA rule, so it should apply. Then again, so is recruiting, and private schools don't get nabbed for that very often.

Again, I may be wrong but I believe they recently negotiated an arrangment.

I don't think it changed, my daughter can't even talk to her club coach until her HS is eliminated form the playoffs in October/November.

may be different on the boys side, or maybe exceptions are made for the top talent.

You might be right. I looked for a link but couldn't find it. Participating in a college ID camp is prohibited, and I'm pretty sure the same exclusion applied to club teams, but can't find the proof.

If that's the case then the only conclusion we can draw is that these two guys dropped out of the Crew Academy program.

It's possible for the Crew to allow them to play HS ball with no contact with them until the tournament is over. That's what all the other kids do.
There are a few kids from the OP team that finished 3rd in the country on the Coffman team.

They also aren't considered part of the high school team until they participate in a game or a scrimmage. They could practice with a HS team without playing and still do club, but just until they get into a match at the HS level.

The OP team likely doesn't play in the fall. Traditionally, U15-U18s only play club during the spring so they can play high school in the fall. In the last few years, the Academy leagues added a fall schedule so they could play year-round, which meant that high school kids couldn't play for their school and the Academy during the same season. I know of kids who chose to skip out on high school soccer so they could play with an Academy team.

It looks like these kids (at least Vrbalic) have worked it out so they can play high school in the fall and Academy in the spring (last season's stats showed that he didn't start appearing in Academy games until after the high school season was over). While it kinda sucks for the Crew to not have these kids training year-round with them, it definitely makes things easier on parents who have to drive these kids 2 hours each way for practice.

OP has a fall team for all their HS age groups. They have had them for years as an alternative. They play mostly college showcase tournaments and usually combine birth years to get the 16-18 kids necessary.

Wingers that score cut down on the number of passes that can be completed! Just the act of digging the ball out of the net and walking the ball out to the center circle can reduce the number of back passes and square passes by a considerable number. The number of passes in a game often effects the difference between a win and a loss!

tonight, D2 ranked #1 DeSales @ D1 #2 St. Charles. DeSales won a state title last year (for the second year running), but they didn't win their own league. Looking to avenge that tonight in the central Ohio #ElCathlico

Oh how I've missed these threads. They used to be started religiously each year along with the Ohio college soccer threads.

Of course that was back when Kofi Sarkodie was the "next big thing" along with several others...in other words, it's been quite a while.

0-0 tie Heard it was somewhat of a slug fest with fouls in box late uncalled. St. Charles on brink of moving into top 25 nationally on TopDrawer.

Very good game. I think SC had 1 yellow, Desales with 4-5. Desales coach sent off for swearing at the referee in the second half (he had been spoken to about it in the first half as well).

Really good game for 0-0. SC controlled the game but couldn't score. Desales had their chances too and the game could've gone either way, but SC was awfully disappointed not to come away with the win given the number of chances they created. Both are going to be very good teams come playoff time.

SC plays Beavercreek at home this weekend. Both teams in the top 5 (ish) in the state in D1.
