As the season draws to a close, we are competing for a CL automatic qualification spot and second place and we have to wonder how did we get here? Why didn't we compete for the league title? Why are we out of the European Cup? I think the reason (as usual) lies in the defense. We never have enough defenders. We only had four experienced defenders before Ferdinand was suspended. We need an experienced CB. Wes Brown didn't cut it. O'shea, Phil, and Fortune are more of LBs or RBs. We need a central defender. We also should establish who is the starting LB. I think the LB should be Fortune and Phil Neville should play as a defensive midfielder. As for the CB problem, I think Ferguson needs to get a good young player from an English club, such as Ledley King from Tottenham. Ledley is fast and patient, he knows how to play. I thought he handled his encounters with Henry exactly right last week. He waited him out and kicked the ball away about three times. We must have money, why not spend some of it. We spent tons on Stam and then Ferguson decided he didn't like him and dumped him. Why doesn't he try again on someone more reliable who has played in the EPL before. There are also good young defenders in France looking for clubs. Why don't we bid for Mexes, Muller, Boumsong, Van Buyten, etc?

You know it's about time when you look at the team sheet today at Blackburn and you see a Manchester United defender by the name of Jonathan Spector.

We have already been linked with Van Buyten b4 and i think he turned us down and the only reason fergie sold Stam was because stam released his book talkin about his team mates, which was a stupid thing to do so ferguson sold him and agree wit that. That was Stams own fault!

We have enough money we should b able to buy ppl like Lucio and other big names.

Per Kroldrup, Per Kroldrup, Per Kroldrup! :)

Seriously, I'd love to Lucio come and play at ManU. One thing about Sir Alex is that when it comes to buying players, he more often than not buys ones that are young and not yet coming into their prime. And if he doesn't buy Lucio, I'd love to see him pick up the young Dane Per Kroldrup. He's had another great year for Udinese in the Serie A. More importantly, he's had fantastic games against fantastic players. Like a week ago when he did so well that Shevchenko didn't have any good and, more importanly, easy chances to score. He's a young guy that I hope has an opportunity to shine in Portugal this summer.

Supposedly he has a lot of potential, and Fergie sees him as someday being a top defender. But he's just 18, so it might be a couple of years before he is an Old Trafford regular. Still, he has impressed with the reserve squad, so its very possible we'll be seeing him on a regular basis.

Come on, if Beregomi can play for Italy in the World Cup when he was 18, Spector can do it! ;)
