Can anyone tell me where all the soccer spots are in the Corona or Orange county area. Please.... I'd love to be able to chill in a sports bar that plays nothing but soccer, and hopefully my metros!!! I need help desperately, thanks
Danny K's in Orange has been known to have shown MLS games on HNDET. They have 5 big HD TV screens. Danny K's Billiard Cafe 1096 Main St Orange, California 714-771-9706 / 771-9707 I am not sure what other bars to recommend in the Orange County area but soccer-friendly spots in LA include: Fox & Hounds 11100 Ventura Blvd, Studio City, CA 91604 (818) 763-7976 C o c k and N Bull Pub 2947 Lincoln Blvd, Santa Monica, CA 90405 (310) 399-9696 Fox & Hounds in the past have bought the MLS Shootout package. As for Orange County, there is a thread on the Riot Squad board regarding this topic that you might want to check out for ideas. BTW, welcome to lovely Southern California.
Don't sit in a bar when you can come to Victoria Street. Tommy Mack can introduce you to his very successful 12 step program.
Thanks a lot for the info, so far I am not liking southern california but I can't do anything about it. Guess I'm a city type guy..........thanks anyway
In July, choose a Saturday and walk along Newport Beach in Orange County. That might help you develop an appreciation for So Cal. Enjoy, Topper
So you've moved to SoCal? Right on. Enjoy yourself. You've moved to a place where the weather is as lovely as advertised (except in the springtime, where it's better elsewhere), where concepts like "you can't fight City Hall" are quaint reminders of places we all used to live, where surly customer service is the exception rather than the rule, where you won't be greeted with scowls and stares when you're "just looking" in a boutique, where people don't go out of their way to piss other people off (ok, sometimes they do when driving), where the eye-candy is plentiful and flows freely all year round, where you have a shot in hell of getting into a sporting event (ok, not a problem in the Meadowlands for a Metrostars game, but try getting Yankees tickets for a competitive series), where you don't have to know someone who knows someone to get anything done (entertainment industry is an exception, but they're at least more aesthetic than every @#$%ing idiot with a PBA card that thinks he's Tony @#$%ing Soprano). It took me about 30 minutes after getting off the plane in San Diego to adjust to SoCal. Now, every time I go back to Jersey, I swear that they take 5 extra minutes to open the plane doors at EWR, just to acclimate people by pissing them off. You're going to love it here. Forget what you've seen in Annie Hall.
Maybe he doesn't have a car. That's enough to sour anybody on SoCal. I lived in the Bay Area for 6 years back in the late '60s-early '70's; no matter where I went in California, a car was essential. I'll be 18 years in NYC come October. The only time my wife and I need a car is when we drive to Florida or the midwest, and then we lease. People do have cars here, but I don't know why. That said, take away the fires and the mud slides, you've got the best weather in the States.
First off, I do have somewhat reliable transportation but I still hate the fact that everything is so far away. I hate how people are so fake and all they can talk about is plastic surgery. Women are attractive but I saw A LOT better chicks out in jersey. Sure the beach is nice but there's a lot more things to do in Jersey. All the kids in their 20's are skaters and surfers out here, the music sucks; there's 10 more spanish radio stations than american. I'm getting tired of mexican food and the biggest problem of all is that gas is twice the amount of what it is in jErsey. I don't know, I guess I love jersey...especially when I lived in Union City, about 3 miles away from Manhattan.... P.S. I forgot to mention that jersey's got the Metros, so that right there is my biggest reason for loving jerze so much..........peace
with that attitude you are likely to hate california; it sounds like your "experiences" are based more on television shows than reality.
if you like your east coast women with all their mustaches, extra pounds, annoying hoarse accents, and bad hair, go ahead. I ban you from looking at California girls
interesting thread. I live in Jersey now but grew up in Southern Cal and there are things I like and hate about both. The good for Jersey is the closeness of everthing, public transportation, passionate sports fans, and the excitement of Manhattan. The bad for Jersey is the people arent very friendly and often give you an attitude for no reason, the weather sucks, and the women pale in comparison to Southern Cal. The good for southern Cal is first and foremost the weather rocks all year, great combo of mountains and beaches, and hot chicks. The bad is you need a car for everything, nothing is close, fair weather sports fans, and its basically one big suburb. Having traveled to all areas of the country for my job, these are the two areas with the most action. All in all, I like both areas.
I can honestly say that the crowd I hung out w/ in LA NEVER talked about plastic surgery unless in global terms. There are TONS of beaches. Check out Crystal Cove between Corona Del Mar and Laguna Beach. Head down to San Diego for even more beaches. And sorry, LA is a mecca for music. The live music scene is frickin' INSANE!! Get out and check out the punk scene in Orange County/Long Beach as well as the Hollywood live music scene. On a monday night in LA, you have more local music venues w/ more ppl checking them out than in SF on a Saturday! The Rock en Espanyol scene is more vibrant than in Madrid! More vibrant than SF Rock en Ingles!! The salsa/Latin music scene is literally world class w/ amazing musicians from all walks of life. This summer go to a classical music concert at the Hollywood Bowl. Bring a picnic basket, a bottle of wine, a light sweater and enjoy. Tix start at $1!! Even if you don't like classical music, you've gotta go. Theater: amazing actors. Check out theaters, especially on the West side on down to downtown. And of course, you've gotta go to The Cathedral to check out a footie match. Good luck in SoCal! I wish I were there. Of course, I wouldn't live in Corona, especially if you're used to the Big Apple.
Oh, and I almost forgot to mention LA Weekly and OC Weekly as entertainment guides. And then there's the movie scene: LA is thee best place to see movies. True, you've gotta be on the West Side or Hollywood to check out the best independent/foreign cinema, but even in OC, the Valley and the Inland Empire you get really quality cinema. Laemmle's. Damn I wish they were up here in the Bay Area...
