I see how well Mexico did in the first round of WQC. Are they THAT good or did they just get an easier draw than the US?
If the US has 10 points after the Panama game on June 8th, then we should be in pretty good shape from there. 6 or less and we need to pick it up a bit. I'd love to open with a win on the road.
They played three countries with a combined population less than the population of any MLS city. Trinidad and Tobago - 1,096,000 St. Kitts and Nevis - 39,000 St. Vincent and the Grenadines - 117,000 - source http://www.countryreports.org/country.asp Kansas City - 1,777,000 Columbus - 1,540,000 Salt Lake City - 1,334,000 - source http://www.cityrating.com/citystats.asp?
Why don't we just have the game down in Mexico City if we want a lot of Mexicans? I have no doubt if we told the Mexican federation we wanted to have our home game against them down there, they'd agree and we could make a big profit for US soccer. Where were you over the summer when we played them at the Cotton Bowl? We won't playing any WCQ's in Dallas, at least not against any Latin team.
Won't happen, not with 2006 on the line. Don't want a repeat of Gold Cup 1998 bags o' urine incidents.
Just moved back to Texas and couldn't make it to the match. I don't really care who they play, just would like a match closer to home so I can attend.
They could play T&T at Reliant in Houston. They bring in grass on 8x8 trays and you get none of those ugly football lines. Which are great for football, but not so great for football er.. that's confusing. bford
I think Dallas's new stadium in Frisco or even Reliant Stadium in Houston could be candidates for Costa Rica, Panama and Trinidad & Tobago home games, however it does not maximize possible weather advantages that may be possible elsewhere in the U.S. Guatemala and Mexico would probably not provide home crowds for the U.S., but other opponents wouldn't be too much of a stretch to put in Texas. I think the final home game, Panama in October, would make sense to put in Frisco.
First home qualifer officially anounced: Guatemala at Birmingham, AL. Legion Field on 03.30.05 http://www.ussoccer.com/news/fullstory.sps?iNewsid=135315
If we can hold it together and steal a point with a draw at Mexico, then that will be great and I will be one happy American. GO USA! We know it is going to be a hostile environment and the fans will throw everything at us ,but our players need to be prepared mentally.
Re: USA/Mexico on Ohio State game night Does anyone think it was a small oversight on US Soccer's part that the marquee Men's match of the year against Mexico will be played on the same day as Ohio State's opening season game? Hopefully the football game will be during the day, but still... Does it severely effect Crew matches when they are the same night?
Re: USA/Mexico on Ohio State game night That game will sell out whether on single person from Ohio is there or not. It's all about location.
Re: USA/Mexico on Ohio State game night US Soccer had no say on when the match would be held. They could have scheduled it somewhere else, but it had to be played on that day. This match is held in Columbus, whether pointy-ball is there that weekend or not....
Re: USA/Mexico on Ohio State game night True. Not only that, considering a lot of US games are still played in football stadiums, options were probably limited on available stadiums.
Re: USA/Mexico on Ohio State game night Yeah I agree. There would be so many more options if there were more soccer specific stadiums...c'mon, let's get them built!
Mega Billionare Phil Anschutz is building one here in Denver. We are a football crazy town you know..........
When the heck are they going to announce the location for the Panama game in October. Please let it be DC, the Nationals are killing us, but maybe after the successful Chelsea v DC United game at Fed Ex they can schedule this one there? Redskins will be away for two weeks.
Can I ask where you saw that? It's still not on the official website. Thanks. Hasn't Foxboro hosted enough games this year? Beat, baseball sucks.
