Well, it looks like they've already pushed that international period to Wednesday/Thursday-Sunday/Monday instead of Friday-Tuesday, so I guess that's their solution on that. http://www.concacaf.com/article/mat...caf-qualifying-for-fifa-world-cup-russia-2018 I'm guessing since they did that, they won't push our qualifier with Mexico to before our qualifier against Trinidad and Tobago, which is basically what they did the last two cycles (us in '09, Mexico in '13).
Looks like home T&T game moved up to Thursday, June 8th, and then quick turnaround on Sunday, June 11th in Mexico. Due to Mex participation in Confed Cup.
USSoccer tweet: NEWS: The game dates for the #USMNT's Matchday 5 & 6 Final Round #WCQ's have changed. New dates: #USAvTRI - June 8 #MEXvUSA - June 11
Looks like a few pieces of news: 1) validating the San Jose location for upcoming Honduras home match. (March 24) 2) Denver location for the T/T home game (June 8, altitude prep for Azteca). 3) Friendly in SLC prior to T/T home game. (Early June) https://www.washingtonpost.com/news...nues-are-taking-shape/?utm_term=.fde0a81920b0
Cost Rica in Seattle? Panama in Kansas City? (That is all we have to speculate about now so I am taking some stabs in the dark.)
I meant more in regards to their choice of WCQ venues. I've heard that they're targeting stadiums where they receive a greater percentage of ticket sale and concession revenue streams. Friendlies should continue to be used as a way to grow this sport throughout the country. Obviously there is going to be more interest in a friendly played in a city that only gets a game once every four or five years compared to places where the US seems to play semi-annually.
Eh I don't blame them. Weird though that they'd get more in NFL stadiums like Jacksonville than an MLS stadium
Well it really depends. You can charge more in a SSS, maintain the atmosphere/home field advantage you're looking for, all while potentially getting a greater percentage of ticket sales and concessions.
I think that T&T match might end up in SLC. Here is why: Both RSL and Real Monarchs are out of town during the time of the match. Next match is at Azteca = acclamation to altitude thus either SLC or Den (who is at home on 3 June). Also I will be in SLC during that time, so I am wishing
I think that they could put a temporary stadium in Leadville, Co. Have it seat around 10k. It would be a blast!
Pretty sure the info has leaked already on SLC hosting the early june friendly and then Denver hosting the home Hex vs T/T.
Can anyone here comment on their experiences in the past getting tickets to the game in Azteca? I am a USSF member (Blue now, will be Red after USWNT game in DC) so I'm not too worried about it, but before booking plane tickets I figured it'd be worth asking here. Think I'm safe booking and trusting that tickets will work out? Thanks!
I think you will be okay. I doubt there will enough demand to require USSF to institute a lottery system for distribution. It was open season for all USSSC members in 2005 (US Soccer Fan email list), 2009, and 2013. And there are other avenues to get tickets. In 2009, I bought tickets directly from ticketmaster.com.mx because US Soccer marked up the price, so that was a much cheaper option. We just went to the US Section rather than the other top level GA section marked on the tickets, which we picked up at a Gandhi bookstore in Zona Historica. Mexico City is great. Estadio Azteca is great. It is all easy to manage independently.
To echo points already made, it's easy. I think they actually made the link to purchase away tickets public 2013. Keep an eye out for other people not with AO or supporters groups to meet up with and head to the game on the metro. That's what we did 2013 and will be doing again. Enjoy Mexico City - it's awesome!
My off the board crazy guesses would be Orlando City's new Stadium and maybe Soldier Field since I want to go see a WCQ near me.
