I didn't see anything about a replacement, but there are a ton of articles about the original. Maybe it was just a bad idea?
This is a really good podcast about Wondo's whole career, starting from the beginning when he was 2 years old or so. From "Hella Football". https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/...wski-From-Zero-to-Cult-Hero-e2l9apa/a-abcrs35
Maybe I missed this in all of the Wondo World Cup discussions over the years and it is not news to others; but I was surprised, and pleased, to hear Jurgen say that the flag was up, and thus no effect on the Belgium game. Also Dempsey mentions that his own shot was saved by the keeper. See minutes 17:56 - 19:10 of this video. In this video Klinsmann also explains his decision to leave Donovan off the roster.
It's like finding out the guy who's been on death row for 30 years didn't do the crime. Okay, maybe not that bad, but the black mark on his reputation will maybe finally fade away. I agree that it was always bullshit -- if it was so easy to score, why didn't someone else do so before he was subbed on very late in the game?
Actually, watching the replay, I think Klinsie is either lying or somehow misfinformed. No way was it offside, and neither was the pass before the headed pass to Wondo.
I wonder if Klinsmann is confusing that with Dempsey's shot near the end of the game that was saved at close range (the one he talks about in that video). That was off a free kick, and a US player (not Dempsey) was on the borderline of offside when the kick was taken.
That sounds highly probable. I don't see how he oculd think that the Wondo play was offside. Or maybe someone misinterpreted his comments?
Jake Moody missed three field goals yesterday, was punched by a teammate, and then got another chance and was redeemed. Fetishizing a single miss says more about the critic than the player. #nflexplainstheworld
It's tough to say whether it's Klinsmann mistaking the Wondo chance for the Dempsey chance, or Klinsmann being a pathological liar
If he was going to pathologically lie, it would have been nice for him to pathologically lie a lot sooner to take some heat off of Wondo. Of course anyone who actually watches the play would immediately know that he's either lying or badly mistaken.
Klinsmann is a narcissist who has to be in the limelight, but I don’t consider him a pathological liar. Klinsmann demoted Oliver Kahn to backup GK at WC2006 in Germany, making Klinsmann the headliner in German newspapers. Then Klinsy did an even worse thing to Landon, making Klinsmann the star of the USMNT. I was worried he would do something bad to Son at WC2022, but Klinsy looked quite out of it, so maybe all those headers finally had some effect.
It was not as easy shot and would have been most likely saved by the GK if on frame. However, it was all about the ecstatic's as it was a horrible looking miss. Frankly, the US didn't deserve to win the game. Belgium kept taking shots directly at Howard and he made a couple of really good saves. If Wondo scores, we would have stole the game.
I think you mean aesthetics: aes·thet·ic [esˈTHedik] adjective concerned with beauty or the appreciation of beauty: "the pictures give great aesthetic pleasure"
