It's good to have Carlos back, but is this going to stop us from upgrading at left or central mid? We could probably stay with Kamler and Griffiths and be primarily a one-sided team again, but we've lost Cloutier, Rooney, and APC, all of whom played central mid (offensive or defensive) last year and we seem to only have Hernandez and Cullen for the two spots.
Franchino and Pierce are also both canidate for d-mid, and Moore and Harris may play at a-mid/withdrawn forward. I would not be at all suprised to see Harris start up top with Twellman with Moore slotted into central midfield with Hernandez. Lee
This is awesome news for Revs fans. Llamosa can bring the revs back to MLS Cup defensive wise. Kante, Pierce and Joseph can learn alot from Llamosa next year. Now, we need a Cmid and Lmid.
If true, this is comforting news to me--but I'll believe it when I see it on an official web site. Llamosa has played on lots of hardware winners in his MLS career. He was a big part of last year's run, and I'll be very happy if he plays for us again this year.
Well, Carlos isn't listed on our roster at MLSNet--and Serna is. I'll feel better if Bergin or someone can confirm this news--to say nothing of the league.
Great news.....It certainly solidifies a key area of the team for us. The only new news though does seem to be that we have some space for an additional player; i.e. someone to take Nowak's salary spot and an SI slot to boot. So we have, I think, a pretty significant upgrade to the team that went to the finals last year already and still have the ability for another one. Nice....let's hope the 'other one' is one to get excited about....
Good for him and good for you guys. Having attended a couple of Rev's games in Foxboro (and a Nat qualifier), I've got to say that the quality of your fan support deserves a good team.
Two great stories [dated, though, but nonetheless timely in light of this recent revelation]. If this deal comes together, Llamosa and Gazidis should open up a company together called Apex Fence Menders, Inc. Basically, in this one Llamosa comes out throwing haymakers [Serious stuff] http://www.holahoy.com/miercoles/internet.nsf/All/pg003774.htm And, as expected, Gazidis returns fire http://www.holahoy.com/domingo/internet.nsf/All/pg003526.htm Remember, use only www.altavista.com/babelfish/tr [The Official Translator Of The Danizinho Empire] and shop for all your non-refrigerated pharmaceuticals at www.rxofcanada.net Copyright: Danizinho The Shill
It's dated January 29th though (Gazadis response dated February 2nd) - about 2 weeks ago. This was also around the time that a thread on the MLS News and Analysis boards dealt with the subject of whether Llamosa claimed to be discriminated against by MLS (this was based on a spanish broadcast interview - of which I suspect this may be the transcript). So, I guess we have to wait and see.
You know, after the move to Atletico Nacional fell through, I was pretty sure he'd end up back in MLS, but for some reason, I'm still not convinced it'll be with the Revs. - Mike (...who aspires to be nothing more than a pawn in "The Danizinho Empire")
It's Now Official.... Carlos returns.... http://www.revolutionsoccer.net/news/press_releases/fullStory_255.asp "It's great to be back in New England with the Revolution," Llamosa said. This must be a bitter pill- Carlos is obviously a proud man, and we can only hope that the misunderstandings and perhaps cultural differences that led to his ill feelings will have no lasting effect.
Re: It's Now Official.... Maybe. But maybe he is "professional" enough to see that it's all part of the game of both sides negotiating the best deal they can. Anyone think Pedro Martinez desire to have his option picked up now has anything to do with "respect"? Or maybe it has something to do with a concern that the new labor agreement might depress high-end salaries?
Re: Re: It's Now Official.... You could be right on this, and maybe it's me who's culturally challenged. As you point out, "respect" is often code for "cough up more $$$!". All the same, I hate seeing the prejudice card played if it was a calculated attempt to solely strengthen a bargaining position. Perhaps it was simply out of frustration. I'd like to think better of players I plan to root for.
While it is unseemly for players or their agents to use public opinion to further their negotiations, the reality is that the players have a very limited employment options. Most of us would be stunned if we had to negotiate for work with a single employer in our country if we wanted to work at the level appropriate to our skills. I'm all in favor of single-entity, because it favors my interest as a spectator. But it's horrible for players. And management is not above using public opinion, they usually use their influence with the media or unnamed sources. How often is the reputation of a popular, high-level player tarnished by the media, or un-named sources, when a team is preparing to release or trade them?
RKupp is right. Given the way MLS has constructed their business plan it is no surprise that negotiations can get cranky. But the anger should be directed at the league, not the club unless their is proof that a particular team has behaved badly towards a particular player. JIM DOW
