Hi! I am from Europe/Austria. Sorry my english is not so good. In the Hot News of our newspapers stands, that Andreas Herzog from Austria goes to Los Angeles Galaxy. Do you know Andreas Herzog? He plays in Germany at Werder Bremen and Bayern Munich! I hope Herzog will be palying very well! Ciao Paolo www.pruellermania.at.tf
Herzog did well for my Euro 2004 fantasy team. Hopefully he can do well for the Galaxy, except against the Wizards - OF COURSE!
Does he dye his hair blond or have any illegitimate children? (Not that there's anything wrong with that.)
yes paolo ,we heard the good news , though some people think he is to old for Major League Soccer. i am glad to finaly have an Austrian player come to america. he is still with tha national team so i think he can still play. and it gives me a reason to were my Austria shirt next time Los angeles come to New york/ new jersey Metrostars.
Introduce yourself in the following forum: https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=17 Welcome to BS. And welcome to one of the most dominant teams in the league.
I think I can see a few square inches in the area of the navel, and maybe the left armpit, that are not devoted to advertising. Maybe these can be new revenue streams.
The Austrian Bundesliga (just like MLS) does not have a major TV contract due to the small size of the market (the population of Austria is 8.13 mio.) Austrian teams need all the money they can get...
Sorry, but this looks embarrasing to me... Hasn't played since last summer, and no one even in Austria wanted him? Go find some young central Americans better...enough w/aging Euros who can't even get a contract in the small Euro leagues... (Ecklund COULD get one...this guy can't).. Of course Herzog is happy...shite, he's going to get paid 200k+ a year to live/play by the beaches of California when he couldn't even link on for half that in some Austrian village.....thank you, Herr Governor... Sigi did not do his homework on this, and I reckon this will lead to his firing around midseason
FWIW, on the Galaxy board someone is saying Herzog is known for working his #ss off and will not be treating this like a SoCal vacation. But who knows. That doesn't change the fact he's 35. How old was Nowak when he came to MLS? Probably around 30.
Former Austrian stars Hans Krankl and Herbert Prohaska expressed happiness for Herzog. They indicated that it was a nice way to end his career, playing in California. Herzog was brought to Rapid Wien from Werder Bremen two years ago by his former Bayern Munich teammate Lothar Matthaeus, who was coaching Rapid at the time. Let's hope Herzog got a clue from Matthaeus and doesn't treat MLS like a retirement league. Rapid really disappointed last season, and Herzog was let go when his contract expired in the summer. (For what it's worth, Rapid Wien came out of the gate flying this season but has since been passed by Austria Wien.) Here's some info on Herzog's past clubs and transfers. Looks like he was worth a couple million back in the day: http://www.transfermarkt.de/spieler/spieler_details.php4?spieler_id=530 I've read that Herzog has been keeping fit by training with Vienna, a team from Austria's capital with a somewhat storied past that is now languishing in a regional league. Yeah, he could turn out to be a Ronnie Ekelund, but I've got my doubts. For starters, Herzog is four years older than Ronnie.
Nowak was born 07/05/1964 which means he turned 35 during the 1998 season. Not sure what intrigues LA about this guy. I guess we'll find out soon enough. This Mattheus connection is disturbing. Not telling what that lout told him.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!! Now that's funny. Almost as funny as your humiliating defeat in last years playoffs
Not nearly as funny as the Clash. Talk about pathetic. By the way, check out the all-time winning % in MLS. That would be far and away ... The Galaxy. Oh, and let's just check attendance, while we're at it. Let's see, Galaxy, 25% + better than anybody else in the league. Where does SJ rank in both categories? Wouldn't that make them one of the all-time losers in the league?
You know, I try to always respect our opponents. Hard to characterize a two time cup winner as an all-time loser. I think its just that San Jose has certain fans that are all-time losers
Nope on both counts.       Even if Miami and Tampa Bay were to be removed from the all-time attendance list (as they haven't been around for the last two years), San Jose still wouldn't even be the second worst all-time team in attendance. -G
Attention SJ fans: I thought the Bay Area was considered the highest educated metro area in the US... O.k.: TWICE I said "ONE OF"; at no point did I use the absolute superlative. "LA is ONE OF the most dominant teams". How can you argue that? If you are a Chicago fan, I leave plenty of room for you to say whatever you want. Ditto for SJ. I didn't say LA is THE BEST. "ONE OF the all-time losers in the league": How can you argue that SJ isn't AMONG the lower strata in terms of all-time winning % and attendance (even die-hard SJ fans admit to padded #s in the early years, so factor that in)? I didn't say SJ was THE WORST.
This sort of sentiment really annoys me. What a pleasant way to wind down a career; a gentle jog around the pitch in southern California. What the frrigin hell would Krankl and Prohaska know about MLS anyway?
No we don't.       There were only two allegedly "padded #'s" years, and they were in the middle years (1999 & 2000, a.k.a. the Meterparel Years). The #'s in the first few years were pretty accurate, or at least weren't any more padded than any of the other MLS teams' #'s were/are. -G
I love the constant "old euro coming for a vacation" line on these boards. It completely depends on the player. Donadoni and Nowak came when they were older, and couldn't give a damn. They wanted to win, and played like it. The only EURO who seems to have abused the league was Lothar, and he paid for himself! Bayern Munich played a friendly with the Metros in front of 30k as part of the deal, plus the broadcasting fees the Metrostars got from Germany. What more coudl you ask? The same can't be said for such Latin luminaries as Hernandez or any of the recent Colombians the Metrostars employed under Zambrano (who were a disgrace). As I said before, if a player is here to play hard, like Nowak, Molnar, or Ekelund, he should be more then welcomed in the league, as he will improve the overall game play for sure. As for those who think Americans can run the show, I doubt that. The only American in MLS is Martino. He truly has the skills and vision required to run an offense. Other than that who has proven they can do it? That is why keeping the young Americans in MLS is important. Allow those players to take over the offenses.
I don't know if anyone has seen this link before but it's an interesting compilation of all-time MLS regular season statistics. http://www.mlsnet.com/statistics/pdf/AT_league.pdf The stats do NOT reflect the 2003 season so the Quakes may have passed a couple of teams in the all-time percentage standings. The Fire has inched closer to the Galaxy. I am not quite sure how they factor in the ties in the percentage calculation. I thought it might be number of pts gained/number of pts possible but that did not work out. Anyways, if being labeled "one of the all-time losers" means winning twice as many MLS Cups in half the tries as "one of the most dominant teams," I'm OK with that. Back to your discussion about MLS's latest attempt to pander to an particular ethnic group...
