A rather poor loss against Borussia Dortmund now almost ends Hertha's CL hopes. Now they must hold the UEFA Cup spots, a return to European football would be great.

Well, they deserved to lose last week, by all the reports I heard, so that was kinda of a blow.

Still, onwards and upwards. Hertha are iirc, in 5th place, but Hamburg are are the same amount of points as them.

CL was never going to be on the cards, imo - UEFA Cup would be a huge prize for the team and give the fans a much needed boost - being back in European competiton.

If they can't beat bottom side Freiburg on Saturday, then they don't deserve Europe.

    I'm going for a comfortable 3-0 win.

    Ooooh. So close. 3-1 win.

Hamburg lost to Werder, a game that they could have done being a draw.

    Still.....

    :)

A good win for Berlin. They are looking good for the uefa cup since Hamburg and Leverkusen are off form and Dortmund are too far behind to challenge. I'd personally be happy to see the Hauptstadt back in Europe next season.

Fantastic goal by Marcelinho. If you didn't see his goal already:

Richard Golz, Freiburg's goalkeeper, made a terrible job in this scene. :D

    The goal was nice.

However, Gotz needs to work on getting an actual striker into the squad for next season because the Bobic, Wichnariek, Reina & Rafael thing isn't working. Mansiz managed to injure himself again so we'll never see him playing which is a shame because the guy has proven talent and has experience. Our striker woes continue.

WOW amazing goal, one of the goals of the season for sure.

Two important games coming up, Werder away and Schalka @home. These 2 games will show whether Hertha is CL material or merely mid-table.

As for a striker, the transfer market this summer will be critical. Salihovic and Rafael have shown some good signs, but a proven striker is a must. One name that has come up is the Turkish international Akin Serhat, but nothing seems to be coming in terms of them signing them. Another potential I could see is Thomas Brdaric, who looks very likely to leave VfL Wolfsburg.

    No idea...Hungarian international?

In other news, Friedrich has looked very spectacular the past few weeks, with a goal and 2 assists. He may have locked his permanent place in the German Starting XI. And Salihovic hasn't looked too bad either, maybe someone for the future I hope. He needs to score, though.

I still wish Mansiz would actually get a chance to play.

As for options, Bdaric maybe. I think we'll be looking outside of the BL for our solution probably.

We could always go for more creative midfielders and try and get Mintal.

I heard we have some money available. Roughly close to the 5 million Euro mark. I think we can manage to bring in someone.

But debts of 20 million euros...not Dortmund like, but certainly not good.
Maybe if we get European football....so that we can get Podolski! :D

European football huh? Well, I have a feeling that the next two weeks will really make or break our season here, with W. Bremen in Bremen next week and then Schalke 04 in the Hauptstadt the week following (I know Ive got my tickets, do you all?) Both should be good matches if we show up for the whole 90 min opposed to showing up for 45 or 60 or 70 as we have done a few times this season. And, hey, we didn beat Schalke earlier this year at, well, I guess, "Veltins Arena," so we know that we can take them out again, and I have a feeling they have a lot of pressure now with being 3 points behind Bayern, one almost has to favor Stuttgart for 2nd the way they have been playing...

Anyways, I hope for two good matches, and two positive results. Aufgehts Hertha!
