From Daniel Hernandez's 4/25 Fortune Cookie at The Kowloon: "Don't Buy, Don't Buy...Don't Even Check Into The Endzone Motor Inn - A Move Is Definitely In Your Future!"

Hernandez has been informed by the Revs he won't be part of the Revs travelling party to Dallas [It's likely, however, he may be in Dallas since it's near his hometown].

No official word as of yet from the team - but that's what's going down for the Revs firebrand and midfielder. Reportedly the suspension came as a result of his comments that were reported in both Boston dailies [See today's Globe and Herald stories].

    Love is in the air...

    DH vs. RO'B

Jambon, is this a move that Dallas fans could live with? I get the feeling RO'B has won a lot of Burn people over lately.

I have come to like DH, though, as another poster put it, he wears his heart on his sleeve. If he doesn't want to be in NE, we may as well get the best deal we can. When motivated and healthy, he is, IMO, the player Deering wishes he were.

i believe i heard else where he wasn't going to take the trip down because of his injury, and this was before the comments in the papers today.

Now a trade for Ronnie O'Brein for DH would solve our midfield problem, at least temporarily. It would for sure solve our left mid problem.

    Re: DH vs. RO'B

Perfect explanation. I like DH because of his threatening foot, from well outside the box. At the least likely time for a shot, there it is. And it's quite often on target. I wouldn't cry if I saw him go, but I wouldn't put it on top of my list.

I don't think that's what Jambon meant. He was merely commenting on the meeting tomorrow between Joe-Max and Super Ronnie at central midfield.

At least that what I hope he meant.

Look at the flipside here: more quality minutes for Shalrie Joseph.

I think it is more likely that Moore will drop to A-mid... at least I hope so.

Shalrie Jospeh's mninutes weren't exactly quality minutes last weekend. I shutter to think of more minutes for him out of position

    Even stranger yet....

I was forwarded the following email....don't know if it is legitimate but....very strange....

"Please allow me to introduce myself. My name is Daniel Hernandez and I am the starting center mid-field for the New England Revolution. I am e-mailing you to make you aware of the interest I have in running some private sessions with the teams on your respective club or anyone else who may be interested. I am open to coaching any age, girls or boys, any level. Spreading the word would be greatly appreciated. This is my sixth year in the league, I am a previous MLS all-star, and currently a member of the U.S. national team pool. Normally, I will run my sessions with each team for 4 days (monday-thursday), for approximately 1 hour a day. My sessions will be quick and to the point. I believe your players and teams can benefit greatly from these sessions. I am running these private lessons on my own and not through the Revolution. So for more info. on these sessions, scheduling, and pricing, feel free to call me on my cell. phone anytime at XXX-XXX-XXXX. I hope you take advantage of this opportunity and I look forward to hearing from you soon. Again, be sure to call XXX-XXX-XXXX for any info. If no answer, please leave a message. Thank you for your time.

    is GONE
that doesn't seem too strange to me. from various articles, etc. that i've read it seems that lots of players do private sessions with youth players a lot. seems like a good idea for some easy extra cash.

    From MLS Confidential:

I read that its bad form to reproduce extended quotes of copyrighted material, so I'll try to summarize today's MLS Confidential.

    - SN checked out Cancela in costa Rica.
    - Cancela has played 1st division in Uruguay and Mexico, and is young enough (26) to qualify as a discovery, allowing the Revs to spread his hiring cost over three years.
    - The Revs could clear cap space by dumping a salary. DH seems a likely candidate at this point.
    - SN and DH screamed at each other after the Crew match.

This seems to put all the puzzle pieces together. But what happens to DH if no other teams make a decent offer? What team wants him?

It seems unlikely that he would go to Dallas even for one for one of the infamous conditional picks. Burn seems as balanced and together as any team in MLS right now; it's hard to imagine them offering anyone in trade (clearing cap space), regardless of DH's desire to play there.

I imagine that Dallas might take DH as long it was for essentially nothing. We might give you the conditional pick or even Carl Bussey. Then again, a morale problem that would be destined for the bench might not be such a good pickup.

Danny Boys behavior is not unusual in sports. Many coaches and teams have had to deal such crap from egocentric mini-stars. What's critical is how well the team deals with it. This is where leadership comes in and we get the true test of a coach and his chosen Captain. The Revs for the most part are a young team but it has coach with character, some stable lads and a few mature leaders. I'm putting my money on SN and the backing of Captain Franchino, Steve Ralston, JMM and Woldi to get Danny Boy back in the grove or find him a new home if he becomes a distraction.

    Re: From MLS Confidential:

I think you could be a little more liberal with the quotes than this, but thanks.

The Revs would be fools to let DH go for nothing. He's a damn good player and was a key part of last season's team. There are some other players who might provide a much more effective way to create salary cap room.

Just because a player shoots his mouth off in the press you don't knee-jerk yourself into a trade where you get nothing in return. If there is a major rift between Nicol and Hernandez, the Revs should hold onto Hernandez and let him work for a trade by playing quality minutes.

If the Revs give Hernandez to Dallas for nothing, I'll be thoroughly disgusted.

There's a reason why teams have always been willing to get rid of Hernandez for peanuts in the past and we are now learning them.

Imagine the uproar around Boston if a key player on any other team in town had made these sort of comments.

And don't forget his griping about Arena not giving him a chance (and threatening to go play for Mexico). Bruce is looking smarter and smarter every day.

"SN and DH screamed at each other after the Crew match."

Just to clarify this, DH got in a shouting match at halftime of the match in the tunnel to the locker-room.

As for a potential trade? I'm sorry, but I wouldn't let Hernandez back out onto that pitch when considering he went behind Nicol's back and to the press with his rant, and how it's been reported he'll stay a little longer in Dallas after the Revs have left.

We have cover in defensive midfield, we have someone good from set plays... make a move, free up cap space, and a player we really need. That will seemingly make the Revs happy, that will seemingly make Hernandez happy.

Apparently you haven't listened to Pedro Martinez the Proselytizer. Pedro, in my opinion, says some of the most incendiary crap - looking forward to free agency, the Yankees, etc - and it's just stuffed under the rug just as soon as it rolls off his lips.

Hernandez, and apparently others, too, are very frustrated with the style of football they're playing, even though their season is three matches old. JMM early on when they were in Brasil intimated, albeit more eloquently, virtually the same thing Hernandez has been saying.

The guy who's under the gun obviously is Nicol, the reigning MLS Coach Of The Year - he's working on a one-year deal. That, to me, says it all. Nicol obviously wants/needs to win it all.

Also, let me ask you a question: How does the Revs style mesh with the Nats [think back to WCC]? Stylistically, they're not even in the same hemisphere. Methinks brother Arena would definitely have a hard time with it, not that Nicol's trying to impress Arena, much less Hernandez.

    One day, that's it.

Typically the squad gets Monday off - and that's Hernandez's perogative if he wants to return then [That part of the flight comes out of his pocket]. If they had any idea he was going to stay behind and blowoff training I don't think they would have allowed him to fly on the team's charter down to Dallas.

It - the newspaper item - could have explained it better.

My god! A player is miffed because he's not getting enough playing time, doesn't like the style of play, and isn't getting the ball enough. Imagine if this happened in basketball?! ...er, well, imagine if this happened in NFL football?! ...er, well, imagine if it happened in baseball?! ...er well, never mind.

If my 2002 Honda Accord starts squeakng in the front end, I don't just give it to my neighbor.

    But that's just me.

i think you are right rodan. nobody has to be happy, or like playing. they are pros. hopefully the benching will remind hernandez of that fact.

if mls do sign the guy nicol scouted, and he is great and wonderful - cutting hernandez, or trading him for peanuts to clear cap space is fine with me - and smart.

if hernandez is jettisoned, and we don't pick up the new guy, or if we pick him up and he sucks, or if we trade for a stack of MLS Freekick mags then i would argue the Nicol let his feelings get the best of him...

i do like Nicol's no-bs approach to the situation so far though... i like his answer to the question about who else might dislike the playing style - "youl; have to aske them yourself" think th reporters will get any takers after Hernadez bloody head is stuck on a pole at the entrance to the village?

My main point is, unless you possess an embarassment of riches (something the Revs have never been accused of), it never makes sense to give away something value for nothing.

And one other thing - when it comes to foreign players, there's been very few "sure things" in the history of the MLS (The Bob BTW had the good fortune to get two of them - Nowak and Guevera). Without an allocation, any player the Revs are likel to get is not likely to be much better than a 50/50 proposition.

So before you talk about cutting proven, reasonably paid (although pain-in-the-ass) MLS players with little or no compensation, you'd better be damn sure you have something better on the way.
