Seattle can salvage their season with a Heritage Cup victory! The "mad accountant" (Schmetz) called the season a "wash" because they won CONCACAF Champion's League but failed to make the MLS playoffs. So it's make or break on the Heritage Cup!
For the 2023 Heritage Cup, each team hosts one match, namely the May 31 match hosted by Seattle Sounders and the July 12 match hosted by San Jose Earthquakes. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heritage_Cup_(MLS)
The NASL San Jose and Seattle players, coaches, teams, broadcasters and fans established the foundation (and even the names) for the Sounders and Quakes of today. In addition to this being the 50th year anniversary for both teams, 2024 will be the 16th time they compete for the Heritage Cup.The Heritage Cup was begun in 2009 to inspire today’s players and fans, in both cities, to compete with each other to honor and emulate their NASL predecessors by creating new memories and traditions for the next generation. From 2009 - 2023 the Sounders have won the Heritage Cup 8 times, The Quakes 7 times. The EQ are the current holders. 2024 will have a 2 game series. San Jose hosts on March 23, followed by a game at Seattle in September. The 2024 winner will be awarded the Cup in September at a postgame presentation ceremony . 1st tiebreaker will be most goals scored, 2nd tiebreaker = most away goals. (additional tiebreakers available at https://theheritagecup.com/2024-competition-rules/ ). There is a panoply of statistics for the Heritage Cup competition, and stats dating back to 1974 as well, see: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heritage_Cup_(MLS) The Heritage Cup was conceived of and designed by Quakes fan Rob Stevenson. The Heritage Cup Committee is composed of fans from Seattle and San Jose. It was originally established by the Soccer Silicon Valley Community Foundation. The committee collaborates with supporters groups from Seattle and San Jose (Gorilla FC and The Faultline).

Saturday's 3-2 victory means the Quakes will retain the Heritage Cup if they win or tie in Seattle in September. (They also won the HC in 2022 and 2023).
Feel kind of bad for Seattle that they lost Heritage Cup again to the Quakes. I'm sure that's the hardware that they really cared most about this year.
