Has anyone seen the supplement in the Post today for Opening Night? There is a section with the rosters and probable starting line ups. The Rapids possible starting lineup has Herdsman listed at right back.

I know on the call in show Hankinson insisted that he will not disclose his starting lineup until the team is taking the field. But the idea for this must have come from someplace. I didn't even know Herdsman was getting consideration there.

I suppose it could be an elaborate ruse for the one in a million chance a Quake coach reads the supplement and believes that Herdsman will be out of position for the sole purpose of picking Donovan. Or it could be the fact that Herdsman is penciled in because he is an actual possibility at that position, as was a suggestion in another thread. I don't know who fills the thing out, I suppose the same person who does it for the game programs.

But it is interesting that it did show up at all. I doubt "they" just pulled his name out of the air.

I don't mean to sound like an idiot, but what is Herdsman's natural position. He is fast as hell, not so great on the ball. Outside back sounds about right. What positions has he played in the past?

In a 4-4-2 he's mostly played center back. During some unsuccessful 3-5-2 games he has played on the outside. Sometimes the back line would be Titus, Fraiser, and Herdsman, all three center backs in the 4-4-2. I have seen him play spot times in the midfield and even forward as a late game sub. But that was always to throw another defender out there. For almost the entire preseason, he has been a center back.

OK I'm guilty of that for two reasons...1) I am a longterm supporter of 'speed' in the defense and 2) Herdsman really grew up last year (played the ball with safety), and was rewarded with starts in the palyoffs.

    Why expect Hankinson to backtrack?!
    Donovan needs a speedy marker!
Herdsman played great in the playoff games that I saw, and he has played up front, too, making him fit the "Black and Blue" theory of 10 field players who can defend or attack.

Matt Crawford will be starting at right back. Herdsman will be a starting central defender.

The tone of this is like someone who knows. Remember that "ballboy" guy who knew everything in preseason? Maybe one of you could tell us about Grimandi?

    Who is Bootsy?

Yeah, Bootsy's only other post was to tell us that Grimandi told him he wasn't married.

Sounds like someone close to the team...

The Rocky Mountain News appears to be verifying Bootsy's news exactly as he said it would be. So who is bootsy? Any guesses?
