http://football.guardian.co.uk/News_Story/0,1563,944927,00.html Stop the press friends. Here's news to lighten our heavy hearts. Our man Thierry has beaten out the evil Ruud Van Nistelrooy of the club whose name we dare not speak. I think we all know he was the most deserving. No knock to Van Nistelrooy who scores a lot of goals, well tap ins and rebounds (if you consider those real goals), but Henry certainly the more deserving. Three cheers to Arsena's #14 for a reward richly deserved. He's done us proud this year we could hardly have asked any more of him. Well maybe he might have transfered his domestic form to Europe but this is a happy occasion and shouldn't be soured. Cheers Thierry!!!!!!
In addition to Thierry's individual honor you might notice a lot of familiar faces among the PFA team of the season as well: PFA Premiership team of the season: Friedel (Blackburn), Carr (Tottenham), Cole , Campbell (both Arsenal), Gallas (Chelsea), Vieira (Arsenal), Scholes (Man Utd), Pires (Arsenal), Dyer , Shearer (both Newcastle), Henry (Arsenal). Lets see that's five out of eleven and only Newcastle also put multiple players on there. I have to admit Pires selection puzzles me a bit but as long as Giggs didn't make it I would have been happy. And as a final pleasureable note. Alan Shearer beat out Eric Cantona for the honor of overall player of the decade. This is doubly pleasing for me as I've always loved Alan and also it blows off Man United yet again.
Congrats to TH14! He's the reason I became a Gooner so it helps confirm that I made a pretty good decision. I too wondered how Pires made it but what the hell, should we complain? As for Shearer, from what I've seen of him this season, I think he showed why he got picked for player of the decade. Congrats to Shearer. One interesting selection was Jermaine Jenas over Wayne Rooney for Young Player of the year. I figured with all the Rooney hype, he'd definitely win that one. Oh well.
Stand up!! Come on now guys this is disapointing!! Here we need to applaud Thierry and the rest of the team for being recognized for excellence by their peers and all we have is utter silence. Now I know the urge to stay silent and bury your head in the sand is a strong one but we can't give in yet. Believe!!
Re: This what you meant? Gah! I was at Borders the other day and I picked up the new Fleetwood Mac CD, and the lady at the counter then proceeded to inform me that Cher and Celine Dion both have new releases out. Why she thought that I, a 38-year-old married male, would have the slightest bit of interest in either of those two remains a mystery to me. I didn't want to be rude, but I couldn't think of anything to say in response to her. So I said nothing. I bit my lip, nodded a little bit (acknowledging that I heard her, at least), and didn't say a word. I think my silence spoke volumes.
Congratulations to Henry! He really deserves this one, especially since he had to beat out van Nostrilhair for it. Here's to TH14! Vive le AFC! OPArsenal __________________ Take it, Ruud!!!!!
Well done to Henry, but I'm surprised no United trolls have reminded you of his run and finish from the half way line a couple of weeks back!
Wonder goal my freaking ass Oh you mean the one that came right after a vicious elbow to the head of a Fulham player (I forget which exactly) that was ten times more malicious and incendiary than Sol Campbell's?
This just in folks: The title of this thread should be ammended to Henry - Double Player of the Year!! http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/eng_prem/2992887.stm Thierry has now been named the Football Writers Association Player of the Year going along with his PFA gong last week. This makes him the forth Frenchman to win the award and the 11th person to win both in the same season. Note: He again nipped Ruud van Nistelrooy at the wire!
TH14 has now also been awarded the "SportsWriter's Player of the Year" award too. He receives this at a reception just prior to the Cup Final. Again RvN loses out to "our Tel".
Re: Wonder goal my freaking ass Actually I was thinking of the one at Highbury after he left Campbell and Keown for dead and then chipped Taylor! And after watching Van Nistelrooy play today, I have to admit that I think he's much more deserving of the award. About 70 minutes in, United are 4-1 up with Van Nistelrooy having scored a hat-trick. Is he standing on the half-way line with his hands on his hips? Is he shooting from outrageous angles where there's no chance of him scoring? No, he's playing the game properly, passing when neccessary, shooting when he has the chance, but above all working his socks off. Chasing and harassing defenders and generally being a pain in the backside to the Charlton back four. A lesson Mr. Henry could learn methinks.
