OK, we need to decide who the better player is. I'm a United fan and I will admit that Henry is good, but who is the better player and why? Both are tall, fast, and obviously superb goal scorers....

this must be the hundredth thread about this topic. any sensible fan knows that Henry is far better than rvn. henry creates goals, rvn poaches into the net. henry is faster, and the best in the world.

Henry also scores from outside 10 yards, something RvN only dreams about.

Actually, like gunnerdude said, it's apples and oranges: RvN scores, but Henry scores AND creates. He is 4th in total assists in the Prem over the last 3 years, right behind Bergkamp. That should tell you how good he is as setting the table.

But everyone also has to agree, if either one is your only striker... you can't be too upset.

I used to say Van N, sharper finisher and doesn't need as a much support or service. But this season he's been off form and Henry has been much more deadly in his finishing.

Simple as this Ruud Van Nistlerooy has never scored outside the penalty area for Manchetser United, Never!

Henry brings loads more to Arsenal than just goalscoring, his link up play is unbelievable, his pace is unbelievable and his vision is unbelievable. Henry is way ahead of VanNistlerooy.

Van Nistlerooy has pace but not in abundance there are loads other strikers quicker than Ruud, his game isn't based on pace its based on being in the right position at the right time in front of goal, and before you say it no you don't need bags of pace for this just look at Alan Shearer, Mark Hughes and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink.

And I don't see how being tall can make you a better player just look Diego Maradona, Michael Owen, Wayne Rooney, Craig Bellamy, Robbie Keane, Henrik Larsson and Ronaldinho.

RVN hasn't been off form this season, the service he used to get (Beckham) isn't there, and the table setter he has now (C. Ronaldo) has an option to cut into the area as opposed to just crossing.

Actually, he had one against some "small" team in the Champions League.

he hasn't scored from outside the box in the league yet, that much is right.

How many goals did Gerd Muller score from outside the box?

It is an additional aspect of play but it is not the be all and end all.

I would probably put Henry ahead of RVN.

No doubt if Henry continues his form to the important possible games at the end of the season (potential CL final/ Euro 2004) then he has the strongst claim to be the best striker/player in the world this season.

It is obvious to any observer that RVN is suffering mild burn out and is fatigued. I said it would happen a while back and it has. The expectations on his soulders were immense and he's suffered this season because of his exploits in the last even if he is still scoring goals they are not the type of goals and sharpness he exhibted last year.

Obviously Man U are off form which is another major factor whilst Arsenal are loving their football at this present moment in time...good football =more plays = more chances at goal for Henry and better openings.

On current form it is obvious that Henry is the man doing the business and all credit to him..he looks like he's exorcising demons ala Raul before he learnt not to choke and became one of the best support strikers in the world.

The jury is still out Henry for me. The big games is when he chokes and the big games haven't happened yet, so if he passes that test and doesn't choke he will be a worthy and rightful winner of the best player in the world.

They ran the stats on Sky Sports News one night when they were doing a story on how Henry didn't get the FIFA WPOTY, and they made note that he was just behind Bergkamp. For the life of me I can't remember who was 1st and 2nd.

However to his credit, he's joint 2nd top goalscorer with 5 goals & he's the top assist giver with 6 in the Champions League.

    It's getting too repetitive...

Thierry Henry is the better player.
Meanwhile, Ruud is the better striker.

Ruud seems to be in the right place at the right time. He's always scoring in front of the net.

Theirry seems to be all around. He finishes from outside and inside the box. I think that makes him such a deadly goal scorer.

In my opinion, I would say Henry is the better overall player. He's very smooth on the ball, and Ruud seems to be a little tense in some situations (more of this season). Yet he has such great finishing--it's only one man's opinion.

I'd take Henry over RVN any day, tho RVN gets the job done most of the time so I can't complain :)

Henry has the ability to create his own oppertunities and finish those created by others very well. RVN is a big guy, therefore it's a bit harder for him to the agile things Henry would do. But like said before, RVN has come up big several times for Man U in the final minutes of games and score a game winner because he was found in the right place. So in a sense, RVN is a very smart player who understands the field. I think it's a tie. They're two different players. One's a striker, the others a play maker who happens to be a forward.

If the Metros get either, I'll be happy. :D

They are both the same height and weight. Henry's stature and strength ar deceptive - he's no less then an inch or two shorter than Vieira!

And to the people saying Henry can finish 'well' inside the box..Compared to proper strikers he is poor in the box..not that it matters.. just as irrelevant as Rud's lack of long range goals.
