I believe there are strong similarities between Henry and Michael Vick. For those of you who don't know Vick, he is the most exciting player in the NFL. Like Henry, he has world-class pace. Also, he can beat you every way this side of Sunday. Glad Thierry considers Arsenal "His Paradie." I'd have it no other way.
confusing thread.... or is it that you just like these two guys so you think they are similar??? or cuz they both have extreme pace? at any rate.. confusing..
I dunno. Yesterday, I was watching NFL and I was just thinking "That guy is a joy to watch." Also, since he broke his leg, it made me think of what would happen if anything serious happened to TH14. Vick's team were a shadow of themselves until he came back, although I don't think Arsenal would have the same problem because of the skill of Vieira, Pires, Bergkamp, Campbell, Ljungberg...
There isnt a comparison. First of all, Thierry is a much better athlete imo. Vick is also a premaddona, and a pretty boy. I think Vick and Becksy are more comparable
Have you ever even see Michael Vick play? He's one of the best pure all-around athletes in American sports over the last 50 years. He's definitely got Thierry's speed...and can Thierry throw a ball 70 yards or break six (NFL) tackles?
What do you know, manc? 50 YEARS!!!!!!!!!!!! You must be joking! Hes a great athlete, but he is overhyped for what he actually brings to the table. You are obviously a glory hunter(manure) who is caught up in the Vick mania like the other little girls! I would say the only comparison is speed, but many in real football and american football have that.
Are you nuts? There isn't a comparison? Thierry is not a "much better" athlete than Mike Vick. I'm not going to play down Henry's skill, but Vick is amazing. Not sure if you've ever seen Vick play, but his athletism is incredible. This guy is perhaps the fastest guy in the NFL AND he's a quarterback...has a connon of an arm. Add to his arm and to his blazing speed increditble agility. He's so quick on his feet he leaves defenders in their jock straps. He's a complete package of athletic skill. I find the comparison here interesting.
Well they are compareable as far as skill. But that doesnt make a comparison with henry any more viable than a comparison with Ronaldo, Zidane, Nedved, or Nistelrooy
I think there is a good comparision here... They are each the best pure athletes in their respective sports.
OK, you don't watch much American football do you. Titi and Vick are both great athletes, but you compare him to Beckham? Where are getting this from? Titi and Vick both have excellent speed and agility, (Vick runs a sub 4.3 40) but that's really where the comparison ends. The demands of the sports are completely different, and like a previous poster stated, Titi can't throw the ball. But Vick and Henry are as indispensible to their respective teams as any player could be. Comparing Vick with Beckham is an insult to Mike Vick. Why would you say he's a prima donna? You don't see Mike Vick strutting around in white suits with his trophy wife, etc. Vick stays out of the spotlight. And on a purely athletic level, Beckham isn't fit to launder Mike Vick's jockstrap.
I don't know how valid the comparison is, but anyone who talks about Vick like he's nothing special doesn't know American football. Like I alluded to earlier, I don't like comparing football to soccer. They are two very different sports and they provide very different opportunities for individual achievement. That said Michael Vick has changed the way the game is played. He has changed the tendencies of defenses across the league, and has redefined the term "mobile quarterback". Has Henry really changed the game?
If you gave all the head coaches and GMs in the NFL their choice of stealing any one player in the league, Mike Vick would be the UNANIMOUS choice. The guy's scary--one of the strongest arms (if not the strongest) in the NFL, fastest man in NFL, and he's still learning the game. The total package, and I (reluctantly) admit I'm Saints fan. Why am I talking about this on the Arsenal board? Geaux Tigers!
Im not saying Mike Vick isnt great. I used to be a Falcons fan. Im just saying that the comparison isnt great. I could make a comparison with Owen. What do Vick and Owen have in common? The same amount as Vick and Henry. I think Vick is arrogant. Ive seen him in interviews and he acts like a fool.
I definitely disagree with your assessment of his character. What interviews are you talking about? I've seen Vick interviewed a number of times and he seems likeable, especially when compared with some of the jackasses in the NFL. The ESPN interview with Vick and his idol Steve Young was good-he was candid and shared his feelings on his injury and returning to play when the season is obviously a lost cause. Most Atlanta fans want Vick to just sit out and get healthy for next season, but he's going back in. That shows heart and a willingness to improve. I'll admit, he's not the most humble guy in the world, but there's no reason for him to be. He's a hard worker, and the most talented player in the league.
ok,all you chicagoans out there, whet do you think-- kordell stewart-emile heskey.........please let me hear you chime in!!!!!
hey, bayougooner, what about that justin vincent? he's pretty fast. not thierry henry, but shattered the ncaa championship record in rushing yards with 201, and received mvp as a freshman. i just figured if we're going to compare footballers from different countries (which is completely stupid in my opinion) then i should say congrats to justin. i've known him since kindergarten, and he deserves it
I forgot to tell you I'm from Lake Charles too. Also went to McNeese for a couple of semesters. I'm a little older though (graduated high school in '98). I actually work in the athletic department now, and I tutored Justin for a while. He's a player for sure. Glad to see him doing well after what happened to him when he first got to LSU. The game's gonna be crazy, but I don't even know if I'm gonna be able to get a ticket and I work in the damn athletic department. How sad is that!
Re: Re: Henry and Vick... I think it's pretty clear that Vick's "bum leg" has healed. He's the greatest athlete in the world. He's got speed, elusiveness, size, strength, and an unbelievable cannon. (And I think he's scored about the same number of goals off headers as Henry.)
