I wanna get into MLS a bit more, since I have a favourite team in pretty much every other league (although Sunderland are my main love). So, who do I go for? Shamelessly sell your team here.

I don't have a MLS club that I support, but since Sunderland is your #1 club and their best player (sure I'm biased) is Claudio Reyna, I will use a Sunderland-USA connection.

You should support MetroStars or DC United. Reyna was raised in New Jersey - thus MetroStars - but went to University in Virginia - thus DC United.

If Reyna were to finish up his career in MLS, my bet is that he would play for one of these two clubs.

At the moment, pick the Metrostars, they are looking like they are playing the most attractive ball at the moment. Plus there's the suspense as to whether the _real_ Clint Mathis can ever return (for the first time in a while there were hints of it last week).

Since you support Sunderland, I suggest the Rapids, which have a similar win-loss ratio (this year at least).

Why not just go with the best team in MLS?

(SJ Earthquakes, in case anyone forgot).

In light of Sunderland's regulation, shouldn't you be supporting an A-League team???

Just watch a few games if you can and go with your gut....pick who you like whether it's because the team is in a great city (LA), has cool new unis (LA), is the champion (LA), with the MVP (LA) or has a smokin' new stadium (LA).....it doesn't really matter does, it?

Don't worry, there's still room to hop on the D.C. United bandwagon if you want. But when they win MLS Cup this year don't say I didn't warn you.

Right, in response to some of the comments here:

I'm no bandwagon supporter, so I won't just pick the best team on the basis that they win the most. Also, just because I support Sunderland and am therefore used to seeing my team do pants, does not mean that I want to support a hopeless loser team.

So what is your criteria for choosing a team?

    Phil Parkes
    Mervyn Cawston
    Gordon Hill
    Bill Foukes

These are just some of the internationally-known English footballers who have played for Chicago sides. Add to that Dick Advocaat and I think you'll see that Chicago has an excellent tradition that English football fans appreciate.

I don't have a specific criteria. That's why I started this thread, to find out what team(s) i like the sound of.

    Support METRO!

IF you ever have the chance of coming to see "your" MLS team would you rather be in some sh!tehole town like, COlumbus, DC, or San Jose? Hellz NO. You can come see your team and stay in NYC and enjoy the best f00king city in the world.

    Because we are always mediocre.
Because we have MLS' leading scorer from last year.
    Because it's New England.

Let me second that with a bit more explanation.

We are a team of overachievers who generally leave their heart on the field. Last season they went from worst to first, literally in the last six games of the season. They registered 5 wins and one draw to finish only 3 points from missing the playoffs altogether. They then clawed to the finals only to lose 1-0 on a golden goal against the generally despised Los Angelos Galaxy. They led the league in BOTH goals for and goals against.

They are led by one of the leagues most exciting striker tandems, Taylor Twellman who left the Bundesliga junior program when told he wouldn't get a chance until he was 25 to play for the mother club and Joe-Max Moore, recently departed from Everton, and less recently departed, but now reunited with the New England Revolution.

Our history is replete with colorful characters who were not able to lead us to the promised land; Alexi Lalas, Edwin Gorter, Walter Zenga, John Harkes (though he really wasn't that colorful if you don't count his remarks upon being let go) and Guisseppe Galderisi.

We have been much like Paul Keegan, late of our team, a hard nosed, hard working player who you grow to love, but just can't quite seem to get much of the breaks and really make it.

DC United. Why, because what I say goes :D

no, I would say DC United or the Fire, just because our two teams rotate through having the best fans in the league. But please, anyone but the metrostars, the galaxy, the burn, the wizards, the earthquakes, the crew and the revolution.

    :D

if you want a realistic approach to finding your team, they way to go is see the light if you know what I mean. I have no clue what made me like DC United. I watched a match on TV, saw the fans, the passion, I never looked back.

Support the Fire. Passionate fans, always a quality side, and usually play a pretty style of soccer.
