HELP WANTED: Statistics Cruncher

Discussion in 'MLS: News & Analysis' started by falcon6, Sep 16, 2002.

  1. With all the talk about the league attendance this time of year, I was wondering if one of you statistic experts on here could possibly tell me what each MLS team has averaged since they have been in MLS, with the average including every home game each team has ever played in 7 years. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Because it's much easier for one of the "stats experts" to do all the work :) ?

i gave a link to All Time MLS Stats, but it runs from 1996-2001.

  7. I give in. Everyone shamed me into doing the math. Here is the totals:

Team Games Played Avg. Per Game
    1. Los Angeles 107 20,932
    2. Metrostars 107 18,307
    3. New England 106 17,826
    4. DC 105 17,324
    5. Columbus 107 16,282
    6. Chicago 75 15,353
    7. Colorado 106 14,092
    8. San Jose 106 13,253
    9. Dallas 107 12,509
    10. Kansas City 107 10,007

Not bad everyone is in five figures for their history now.

Re: Re: HELP WANTED: Statistics Cruncher

Tampa Bay didn't finish under five figures.

    Regular Season
    LA - 20,957
    NJ - 18,308
    NE - 17,826
    WSH - 17,325
    CLB - 16,283
    CHI - 15,353
    COL - 14,092
    SJ - 13,260
    DAL - 12,509
    TB - 11,072
    KC - 10,008
    MIA - 9,345
    MLS Average - 14,914

Now you know why Miami was axed: Crap promotion ='s crap attendance.

Now you know why Tampa Bay went I/O, say another MLS operated club; such as Dallas. Lower attendance.

KC was rumored to be gone, with Hunt taking over Dallas; but TB went bye-bye.

    Playoffs
    LA - 18,519
    WSH - 18,380
    SJ - 14,582
    NJ - 13,853
    CLB - 13,807
    NE - 13,478
    CHI - 12,475
    COL - 10,696
    DAL - 10,598
    TB - 9,578
    MIA - 9,409
    KC - 8,057
    MLS Average - 13,336

Totals don't include the Cup Finals. These are just the club's numbers.

    Overall
    LA - 20,445
    NJ - 17,995
    NE - 17,746
    WSH - 17,425
    CLB - 15,929
    CHI - 14,462
    COL - 13,940
    SJ - 13,053
    DAL - 12,198
    TB - 10,983
    KC - 9,822
    MIA - 8,838
    MLS Average - 13,875

If we are going to add playoffs, maybe we should add the MLS Cup and the All-Star game.

Re: Re: Re: HELP WANTED: Statistics Cruncher

Your overall average has to be way, way, way off. You can't go from 14914 regular seaoson to 13875 overall unless NOBODY went to ANY playoff games, which is not the case as you illustrate above.
