Hi, I will be writing for the upcoming La Galaxy v Rangers game. Just wondering if somebody could give me a 'heads up' and let me know the likely formation and players for this game. Also does anyone know what the crowd might be?
Thanks for your anticipated help guys!

Since it's a friendly, probably a mix of starters and reserve players will see action. Usually these games allow for a lot more subs, so our starting team may begin the game, with mass substitutions at the half. We've been playing either a 4-3-3 or 4-4-2 or 4-5-1 formation, depending on which players are in the game, so your guess is as good as ours regarding the formation.

Look up any game thread for the past couple games to get players and formation info.

As to attendance? I guess we're going to find out how many loyal Rangers fans there are in the area. My guess is only the most die-hard Galaxy fans will show up. This is a bonus game for season ticket holders, but we'll see how many show up. My guess is 7,000 Galaxy fans show up - so let's see how many Rangers fans show up.

Yes. His best position is in the middle - tucked behind a target forward as either a second, withdrawn forward or an attacking midfielder.

Yeah, although he did play RF on saturday for most of the first half when Findley was in, although went to a withdrawn forward position once Jaqua came in in the second.

So something like the below formation would be a possibility?
A big thanks for your help guys - much appreciated!

    HARMSE------VAGENAS----JONES---STURGIS

That lineup would only be a possibility in many of our nightmares, as it would mean that Vagenas cloned himself. But I do like the idea of starting 12 men.

All kidding aside, Xavier won't be cleared to play until mid-June. As for the rest, we have a local derby just a few days prior, so regardless of who starts, I think just about everyone will get a run out.

I think your best be would actually be
    Albright - Harden - Marshall - Jazic
    Sturgis - Vagenas
    Landon - Martino
    Findley

You may also want to talk to the front office of the team, maybe they can give you an idea of who Yallop is looking to start. I am sure some of the faithfull here have the right emails and phone numbers
I can give you this alalas@lagalaxy.com Alexi Lalas email he is the GM of the los angeles Galaxy, readily available to the fans , the press I don't know.

LOL I meant to delete the extra Vagenas -- oops lol
Sorry to keep bothering you but i just want to confirm as there are slight cultural differneces in the way you guys seem to write formations to us.
Presumably the 11 (not the 12 i had lol)
you have up there Landon and Martino are the wide players in midfield?
    Thanks again!

P.s in the reports there are numbers after the teams name e.g (The Revolution (4-1-2) )
    what do the numbers represent?
    cheers!

The numbers represent the current record.

    (Wins-Losses-Draws)

Currently the Galaxy have 1 win, 2 losses, and 1 draw.

    Galaxy(1-2-1)

Vagenas and Sturgis are both central/holding mids who are limited going forward. If you see them in the lineup, they're central. Sturgis can also play anywhere on the back line.

Landon almost never plays wide in a 4 man midfield. He's usually listed as one of two forwards, where he plays a withdrawn role. Donovan does play high and wide on the right side of the 4-3-3 that we've been trying, but he ends up pinching in.

Martino does play wide on occasion both in a 4 man midfield and in the 3 forward set. But again, he's not really a wide player.

I wish the questions you ask had some easier answers, but the truth is our team lacks true wingers. Aside from Cobi, our team consists of mostly players who are suited to playing in the middle or up top. That's why you see us playing with players like Jaqua out wide sometimes. Square pegs, round holes.

Our width, on good days, comes from our outside backs. Albright is often a good barometer of how the Galaxy are playing. If he's getting into the attack, we're creating chances and playing well. If not, we're struggling.

great - thanks - been wondering about that!
Is jones not one of your better players? would he maybe play instead of vagenas for example?

If Cobi gets the start, he won't play the full 90. Lately he's been a 60' sub. He doesn't have the legs to play full bore for 90' anymore. Sad but true. I think you'll see more of Quaranta. He needs the work.

Correct, Jones is not one of our better players. You're a quick study.
