Go to this site to email MLS about signing Rivaldo: http://www.mlsnet.com/contact.html It will only take a moment of your time and may actually pay off. If they see a large number of fans interested in Rivaldo, they may take this seriously. Please help if you have the time.
what team can afford him? the salary cap is at $1.7 million and most team are at their limit and some are dumping players to meet the requirement. And Rivaldo salary isn't cheap. We are talking about Adu level here. And beside, I don't think MLS need another Luiz Hernandez.
pc4th has a very good point... as long as MLS still has the tight salary caps on every team, it'll be near impossible to sign him. Besides, signing him doesn't necessarily guarantee an increase in fans or media coverage in this country. Take a survey of people all over this country and whether they can name who the 2003 MLS Cup winner was.
And they might not contract Miami and Tampa Bay, either, once they see how hurt those fans would be! If we just take the time to let them know, they'll do anything we ask! What are you, a fvcking moron?
All of negative tossers can go take the piss. God forbid you actually take it upon yourself to express some support to bring in talented internationals who have expressed interest in playing in the US one day. Each of you should just keep your mouths shut when the league brings in another Lothar or Luis and then you decide you want to bitch. I am not quite pretentious enough to suggest that by emailing the MLS suits that Rivaldo would be signed per se, but it would be good if they saw some genuine interest from a grassroot level. What could it hurt ? Nothing- but attitudes like the ones displayed in the above responses are lame. Get over yourselves !
That is just too much and really mature Mike Segroves. Redneck jokes from a Oklahoma resident. Well done ! None of you had to post anything if you felt the thread was dumb. I was only trying to get some positive emails to MLS. The rest of you sausage nazi's can piss off.
Just out of curiosity, does anyone really know how much Rivaldo was making at Cruzeiro? Until we know that, all this speculation about MLS not being able to afford him is asinine. There's a reason most Brazilian players go to Europe - more money. I can't imagine that Brazil is paying most of its players in the one million range. Do I think petitioning MLS is stupid? Well, no. It's probably not going to do much good, but at least it's relatively pro-active. Everybody does a lot of complaining that MLS doesn't do enough to bring in big name foreign players, so I think that the thread starters heart is in the right place, even if the result probably won't bring much. At least someone wants to try instead of just complain. Kudos from me.
This stuff kills me. Is that even the proper use for the term 'taking a piss?' You should really recalibrate Eurospeak decoder ring.
Why would a Brazilian superstar and World Cup winner under the age of 35 want to come to MLS? There is absolutely nothing that could get him to come over. Not even a million mails from unrealistic MLS fans who don’t know their country’s place in the world of soccer would get him to come.
Rivaldo was making approximately $4 million a year at Cruzeiro IIRC, which was about 3 times as much as the next-highest-paid player in the entire Brazilian league.
Re: Re: help bring RIVALDO to MLS We don't know our place in the world of soccer ? You might want to hang on to that one, it will be outdated in a few years. Then you may want to figure out your countries new location in the soccer world.
America offered as much, if not more money than he got at Cruzeiro, before he signed there and Rivaldo turned them down because he wanted to play in Brazil to be near his sons. So unless MLS expands to Rio, I don't think there is a chance of signing Rivaldo.
Another post on Big Soccer mentioned how the league is already spending 70% of it's revenue paying off player's salaries. That is not a good number considering that the only other sport to have a similar percentage is the NHL.... and everyone knows how the NHL is doing now... Until the MLS can find a way to bring in more money... signing Rivaldo or any other international player equally as costly is a mistake that could undermine the league. By bringing in a player making $4 million a year you're also opening the doors for other MLS stars to demand similar contracts... again consider the $1.7 million salary cap per team set by the MLS.
We're close to Brasil, he'll be able to go back home every week end, beside, he has a chance to get a green card and be a US citizen....,
Why would Rivaldo want to play there? There are still a couple years left in his career for him to disappear in the total oblivion of the MLS. He has better chances of staying on the radar of the powers of football if he plays in one of the Middle East leagues.
And why shouldn't he be paid many times more than any other player in Brazil or the MLS? Rivaldo has been FIFA World Player of the Year, has lead his country to a World Cup victory, and is one of the greatest players ever to play the game. Everyone who likes to trash him just shows how ignorant and delusional they are.
