Sup fellas, I'll be making the trip down with 7 other guys or so but was hoping you guys might be able to help me out. We're left with a tough decision. Where to stay? I got a free night at a Holliday Inn so that'd be my preference. But the question is... Should we stay closer to the Ohio State Campus or Downtown Columbus for the nightly festivities. And how far apart are they anyway? Also, would I be correct to assume that the stadium is closer to the University Campus then it is downtown columbus? Thanks in advance.
If you stay in the one on Lane Ave./Campus you've got the best of both worlds and won't have to drive to the boozers and/or the stadium. There are several within about a 5 minute drive though.
if you stay at the holiday in on OSU's campus (the one on Lane ave), then you can walk to all the campus bars (there are a couple dozen). also, you are an $11 one way cab ride from campus to all the bars downtown. CCS is about 2 miles north of OSUs campus. Downtown Columbus is about 3 miles south of campus.
Please make sure every member of your party knows beforehand what paperwork they need to enter the US. If you don't have a passport, you may get left at the border, depending on how hardassed the Customs guy wants to be.
The Lane Ave. Holiday Inn might be your best bet. A number of decent college bars within walking distance. You can even walk to the stadium from there - it's a little bit of a hike, but I used to walk to games when I lived all the way on the south side of Campus (King, for the locals), and it wasn't unbearable. You can pretty easily cab it to the stadium or downtown. I don't think there's a convenient bus route that runs from campus to the stadium, but the bus is an option for getting down to the Brewery District (which is where all the really good bars are, but it's nowhere close to the stadium). Of course, which bars to recommend depends heavily on the experience you are looking for.
If I had any rep to give, I would dole some out to every post in this thread so far. Outsider comes in to the Crew forum, asks a simple question in a straightforward way with no partisan bluster, and is given several straightforward, helpful answers with no grumpiness. It seems lately that, wherever I go on BS, you just don't see fans from different clubs interacting that way very often.
It nice to see that we still can communicate without being sarcastic and aholes. Thanks guys for fair response, see you soon.
I don't know if it makes me some sort of uber-nerd, but I found myself thinking about where I would stay etc if I was an away fan coming to see a Crew game the other night. You're almost spoiled for choice in terms of hotels really. There's a ton close on 71 and a within like a five minute drive from the stadium downtown. As for boozers, before the game a few of us are going to Tommy Keegans and then up toward the stadium. Not sure where the after-party is yet. TFC fans are welcome at any and all. Keegans is very soccer-centric. Run by Marius, a Romanian dude, who has good specials and good pizza too.
Where exactly is Tommy Keegans, by the way? I tried to go there once last season and apparently had bad directions.
FWIW I stay in COlumbus hotels frequently when I come down for games. Once I slog my way through the slums bumper-to-bumper for an hour I'm usually in no mood to make the run to U-Town. For a weekend game, if you go on Priceline you can get some incredible deals on those hotels up around 161 and 71 N, between Dublin-granvile and the brewery. That's strictly a business area, and while those hotels are usually very busy during the week they're deserted on weekends. You can usually score a three or four star hotel like the Hilton up there for fifty bucks. Live like a sultan, pay like Motel 6.

Agreed. Thanks for the help fellas. I'm guilty myself of a few sarcastic remarks on your turf, but hopefully it's just taken as some unfriendly banter between what could possibly become a nice rivalry. Thanks again and I look forward to your beer showers.
Gentlemen: if I could impose further on your generous hospitality...good places to shop??! My wife and the wee little one will need a place to hang out and shop while my 7 year old and I attend the game. I was hoping to find a nice, clean (suburban?!) indoor mall somewhere where we could also enjoy a nice dinner following the game.
Easton Town Center Is a great mall if you don't mind walking around outside (even though they have an inside portion) If you want strictly indoor shopping, try the Polaris Fashion Place. (Mall)
City Center is a good option, there's really nothing bad that can be said about it. I keed.... Keep to Polaris, it's just off I-71 about 10 miles north of the stadium. There's a ton of good restaurants, (Everything from the nice places- Carrabba's, Quaker Steak and Lube, Molly Woos, Mitchell's Steak House- down to the inexpensive but nice places- Red Robin, Chick Fil-a, O Charley's, there's even a Sonic now). Can't go wrong with Polaris.
I get the feeling I could get my oil changed there by the sound of the name, lol. Back to the original topic though, and since you folks are giving out some good info... where is the best place to party??? I'm 21 and love to dance and get plastered...FYI. So, that means hot girls... and BEER! Am I better off around OSU?? Thanks!
Yep, 50s car theme place. Lotsa wings, including Atomic, for which you have to sign a release before they serve them.
It's been quite a while since I was getting drunk and chasing skirts, and the landscape has changed quite a bit, but I think there are some decent options in both the Arena District, and the Brewery District. Tho if your quarry is hot college frosh girls, your best bet is to stick to the campus bars. I used to know all the dive bars on south campus that were crammed to the gills with drunk 18 year olds, but they closed those all down over a decade ago (when me chasing drunk 18 year olds wasn't too creepy). I really couldn't tell you specifics, tho. I'm married and 30-something. My idea of a "hot night" is if I run into a girl gamer while playing Call of Duty 4.
does it make me old if I read that and think it sounds like a Flaming Lips record and not a video game?
