Time to move on from today's defeat and turn it around in Edinburgh.

    Reina
    Johnson Coates Agger Enrique
    Henderson/Shelvey Allen
    Shelvey/Henderson
    Assaidi Suarez Borini
Bench: Carroll, Sterling, Adam, Spearing, Skrtel, Kelly, Jones
If Enrique's hurt, either replace him directly with Robinson or do what BR did today and add Carragher, Cole, or Downing to the bench. Keep Gerrard and Lucas out of this to preserve them. Keep Downing out because he's complete and utter sh1t. Take Suarez out for Carroll at the half. Allen and Borini need to keep starting games to familiarize themselves with the entire squad. That'll take awhile. Good time for Assaidi to debut. If we seal Dempsey this would be a good game to get him on the bench and maybe get him in for half an hour or so as well.

Cody667's line-up looks good to me. It's a perennial problem with Liverpool managers; to their ultimate cost, I'd argue, they much rather buy and trust other clubs' mediocre players than our own cheap, average players. And when they have no choice they'd rather trust own average players than those who show and display promise.

I think Rodgers missed a trick yesterday with his bench but also hope he has learned a lesson about what players he can depend on to be game-changers.

Wishful thinking/drinking that Assaidi will unseat Downers in the lineup but I'd be shocked to see it happen. BR looks to be another Downers fanboy, to his fault. Carroll won't make the trip as it'll cup-tie him. I'd like to see Hendo get a lot of minutes. Gerrard will start even though he doesn't deserve it.

It's really hard for me to believe Gerrard starts this match. He'll definitely be in the lineup against Citeh, and playing him in a Europa League game that would put him in a 3 starts in 9 days situation is pretty dump considering a) we're playing Hearts and b) his recent injury history.

Even though it is the Europa League and it will likely cause more problems than it's worth, it is exciting to have European games back on the schedule. It means we don't have to wait a full week after a disappointing match to see if the boys are really that bad.

Wish I could go to this one. Edinburgh's one of my favorite cities I've been to.

Remember the last one we won, that was a hell of a tough series of matches a killer final with all the drama 9 goals, PK's, yellow and red cards you'd ever want to see.

Yeh! This is a competition we can win. I'm in for it!

Meanwhile, Deportivo Alavés is playing in the third tier of Spanish Football. Wonder how much they'd like to play in the Europa League again...

Doesn't Agger have to serve a suspension?

yes - but this is the Europa league - the red card has no effect here. might as well play him since he's going to miss the next 3 PL games.

Edit - I'm wrong on the 3 games - apparently it was a "professional foul" - so people are saying 1 game suspension.... Apparently the club will be appealing.

Yeah I heard this yesterday, but just out of curiosity, do we risk a game being added to the ban with a failed appeal? If so then it's just not worth it, because the FA hates us.

Looks like no appeal for the Agger Red.

I can see him starting this game now.

Yep, we didn't hit the woodwork or the guy taking a drink in the 35th row. Back of the old onion bag mate.

    Reminds me of:

Heart of Midlothion v Hamilton Academicals,

....as we checked off Littlewoods Pools, listening to the radio, many years ago.

Anyone remember the score between Fife & Forfar?;)

Just a quick flyby, to wish you all the best for the new season.
