Looks like he suffered a broken ankle in Sunderland's game today. Thats really bad for him just as he was finding his feet there after the move from Celtic.
It's pretty bad alright and I think we can safely say that his season is over. It will be a tall order for him to even get back into contention a midfield place by our opening World Cup game in September. Rather worryingly for himself, his performance in the 80 minutes prior to the injury was dreadful anyway and I thought I had missed his substitution long before he actually went off. The most ineffective display by an Irish midfielder (against poor opposition) that I have seen in a long time. The emergence of Miller & Reid has pushed him further down the pecking order for a place despite the international semi-retirement of Kinsella. A fit Delap & Kavanagh over the second half of the season might just seal his medium term fate. (Sorry Slash)
agh. didn't need to see that again ted... well, at least there's some good news in that it was a clean break and they're confident he'll play again. i feared the worst when i saw it first. http://football.guardian.co.uk/News_Story/0,1563,1103730,00.html
You'd be suprised to know I agree with you. My Healy comments have been taken out of context, I never said he was our best mid field option for the next while, just that he was a better option then Kinsella for the Swiss match. Given a full strenght side now, I'd have Miller, Delap and Holland ahead of him, given Holland seems back on form after his move. Kavanagh I'll wait and see on. Reid, no, because he'll never be a central mid fielder. Still think he's a good player though, and hope he gets back ASAP and when he does he is capable of playing at his best.
