More money spent on not giving actual health care. A study shows that over $4 billion given out to states to run their exchanges ..... http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2013/11/18/feds-gave-4b-to-states-to-start-obamacare-sites/#
In usual Republican fashion (gay rights for example) Rick Santorum admitted on Morning Joe that one of his children has a medical problem and "although it clearly says that the condition is covered, we've been arguing with the insurer for the last 4 months about it." and "sometimes we have to front the money." So even with all of the problems of the Obamacare rollout, we hardly ever hear of another solution but our sucky old HC system. Obamacare has a ways to go, but our old system still blows and many people are still stuck in it.
Why? The cost of Obamacare was not in this week's memo? How much is it BTW? Minus a third of a botched invasion?
This is why I asked @VFish about the function of enrollments. So here are two stories about Obamacare, and vote if you think the conservative story is correct, or my story. Story 1: A person is told to register by April 1st or incur a fee. That person shops around on the national website day after day for two weeks in October, but can't get it to work, and never returns out of anger. Story 2: A person is told to register by April 1st or incur a fee. That person goes about their life until March, when they realize "oh shit, Darren Sharper, the hardest-hittingest safety in the league!" and realize they need to enroll. They sign up. The evidence out of states with working exchanges appears to be the latter, whereas the evidence for the former appears to come out of the mouths of the people who thought Obama was a Socialist, thought he would lose re-election, thought the law is was unconstitutional, and thought Benghazi was a scandal bigger than Watergate. Vote in the comments below!
They don't need bailouts, especially if they're doling out this is salary. And you know they've gone up in two years.
Then there is ... Story 3: Your policy does not meet the standards set forth by the ACA, so it has been cancelled. Your current policy expires on 31 December. Go shop at the exchange if you want coverage starting on the new year.
So we'll expect to see more people on the exchanges then, won't we? Look. You're pretty much at the lower end of the intelligence distribution for a member of the primate order. Maybe even the entire class of mammals. But I think even your simian brain can understand that you cannot possibly agree with the story you just told (people with cancelled policies will go onto the exchanges or get fined) AND the story you've been telling (nobody will sign up and it'll be an absolute catastrophe). If the goal is 7 million enrollees by April, and as many as 16 million Americans will lose their plans according to the Heritage Foundation, and if even HALF of those people go to the exchanges and get subsidized exchange plans, then the target for the program being a success is met. If, on the other hand, people do not lose their plans due to the recent executive order passed by the President delaying that part of the law for one year, then enrollment on the exchanges will go down even more. So it's decision time. Either you believe right now one thing that you've been saying, or you believe the other. You cannot possibly believe both. Which is it?
Setting rates & denying coverage takes a lot out of a person. I bet you'll have someone argue that they're underpaid because they have to turn off granny's breathing machine and deny cancer treatments to Aunt Gladys. Have we nothing left in the HC CEO compassion gas tank, people?
It appears that common sense is not taught at schools these days. Then again, it was difficult to find during my school days as well. You do understand that the exchange are not only set for those seeking subsidies only. In fact, the exchange is dependent upon those who don't qualify to make it work. And those who had insurance, lost it because of ObamaCare are more likely to look to purchase a new policy to continue coverage that they were accustomed to having. Some have little choice but to go to the exchange as their insurance company may no longer serve that segment of the market or the expense is too high. Those people are not concerned about fines. Get off the Kool-Aid and open your eyes.
LOL, you couldn't be more wrong. Out of the six listed, five gave to Romney/Republicans in the last two election cycles. Only Cordani did not contribute to any presidential race in 2012. All the others gave to Romney. You know, rich white people need to stick together.
Yes. I think you basically said what I was already saying. Some of the 16 million will face fines. The others will go to the exchange. So...without making it sound too condescending... Are you a ********ing idiot??? Either you believe that a) nobody will go to the exchanges or b) people will be required to go to the exchanges. You cannot possibly believe both. Let's take it from the top. Which is true? A or B? Come on, bro, let's answer a single goddamn question.
Where do you come up with those two answers? People are looking for insurance. Some are forced to purchase a different policy because they received cancellation of their current one. Where do you think many are trying to shop? You make no sense whatsoever.
Hmmm. Maybe I'm not being clear. For the past few months, you've been saying people will not go to the exchanges and it will be a failure. Today, you said people who lose their plans have to go to the exchanges. If the people who lose their plans go to the exchanges and get coverage, the exchanges will be a success. Which of those two stories do you believe?
You are confusing me with someone else. I have criticized the entire process. I don't recall stating who would or not use the exchange. If you are referring to some making a choice to pay the fine rather than sign up, there are plenty there. But many in the market are being forced to the exchange due to their policies being cancelled. This is not resolving getting coverage for those who are not insured. This is relocating those who had it to begin with. Maybe a success in terms of funding the exchange if that happens. Not a success for those who are not able to get affordable health care. The policies available are expensive even for many who may get some subsidy. And the bronze plans do not give people basic healthcare.
ObamaCare is a failure. The exchange has yet to work, so a bit early to make any prediction there. But give credit to the Administration in being creative to forcing the public into the exchange. If not by threat of fine, it is by cancelling their current policies. That allows for @Dante's insurance executive buddies to keep their compensation packages healthy.
Y'know, this point was made way back and has been ignored since. Use me as an example. I need coverage through an exchange as of January 3rd, actually. (Why my COBRA'd old play expires on the third rather than the first is a mystery I choose not to explore.) Signing up requires that I send a check for the first month. Reasonable enough-- but I'm paying the old plan at the turn of each month as it is. I was absolutely not going to sign up in October, or on November 7th. I'll start trying to sign up in the next couple of days, figuring that one way or another I should be able to get it done in time... Who are all these people who are presumed to be able to to pay their insurance a couple of months in advance?
FAAAAAAAAAAAAR too early to say that. It's working in NY. Yes, the Administration forced companies to cancel policies. This is a new trend, cancelling policies. Never had it been done before the 2nd half of this year. Then I guess they don't need their bailout you were complaining about. Oh and they're not my buddies, I'm not the Republican here.
And hopefully we get death panels to do the same, because otherwise this shit will get really expensive. Keeping granny alive in a machine costs a lot of money, that will have to be cut from someone else, or we will have to get a bigger bill.
Those are all the 1%ers who have been trying like hell to sign up for Obamacare but can't because of the stooopit website fail! Those poor people are going to be without insurance, and that will be a huge burden, especially for the low-income people who will suffer the most!!!!!!!!!!
As I understand it, unless you are eligible for a subsidy there is no reason to go through the exchange at all. In fact, given the security issues that have cropped up I'd avoid if I could. You can shop via the web and then contact your chosen provider directly.
