http://www.soccerbyives.net/soccer_by_ives/2008/01/szetela-moving.html Folks, when this deal went down I said it from day one that Szetela is a good player , but he can't get a first team play in Europe unless he's sitting on a bench. When you get loaned out to another team with option to buy, that means you're not good...
... enough to play for the sixth best team in La Liga. He went to a borderline Champions League team.
I don't recall him showing all that well when he was here. He definitely needed a change of scenery, but he ended up a little out of his league. He's still young enough to improve, but I doubt he'll be the player we hoped he'd be when we saw him at the U-17 level.
Don't write him off just yet ... quoting from IVES, "He has yet to play in a league game for Racing de Santander and the club's lack of a reserve team has meant he has played just once since arriving in Spain (a start in a cup game)." So he's no Freddy Adu ... BS fans expect everyone to start for top Euro sides right out of the gate. Without a reserve side, a loan spell is the best thing that could happen for Danny.
No it doesn't. It could mean that or it could mean something else. Many very good players have gone on loan to another league with an option to buy.
Good Lord... He went to Racing... They're sixth in La Liga... They're almost in a Champions League spot...
I believe "convergecrew" meant that his new team in Italy, Brescia [spelling?], is in Serie B. Yes, he did go to Racing Santander, but he hardly made the field there. So their being candidates for a CL spot means little for Szetela. Brescia is a reasonable club, although the level of play in Serie B is utterly mediocre. Nowhere near the level of England's FizzyPop. He should play at Brescia, but it is arguable it offers him a ptomising footballing experience [beyond placing him in Europe. Frankly, Danny was a disappointment at Columbus. Let's hope that, despite everything, Italy is a place where he begins to shine.
That's my point. He was signed by a team that's battling to get into the Champion's League. Was he expected to step in and start playing when the team can't afford to break in a young player especially when they don't have a reserves side.
Errm... Guys by reserve team you mean like a "Racing B"? Because if i recall correctly Racing B exists and it is on the Tercera Division(In reality it's called third but it's the fourth division in the spanish pyramid).
reserve teams are different in spain as they also play in the league (albeit at a lower level) meaning you can only be signed to one of the teams I believe. (I think promotion form b team to a team is possible during season but not demotion from a side to b)
its always been my understanding that many european teams will not take a player on loan unless they get an option to buy it has nothing to do with quality of the player, its just their stipulation
