Does anyone know if the Britannia Arms plans to show the MLS broadcasts in HDTV including next Saturday's Quakes game? I'd be more than happy to help them get it set up if they haven't done it yet. If I were to make this happen, I would like to know: Which Brit Arms should we target? Almaden, Downtown, or Cupertino? Does anyone have a contact name for someone at the Brit Arms so that I can try to work something out? I'd love to create a venue where we can all gather to watch these games, especially the Quakes games, in high definition (besides in my living room). - Scott
Downtown!! I only say this though because I'm going to a concert at the tank. And I may be able to catch the first half before I go. But...is it true the game is tape delayed?
Isn't one of the Club Quake officers also one of the Brit owners? Scott, you'd better hurry if you want to get them to set up HDTV in time for the Quakes games. Of the six Quakes games on the HDNet schedule, four are at home (so we should be at the stadium) and one is in LA where we can roadtrip to, so the only one that matters is the season opener on April 12. Erin -- the game is not tape delayed on HDNet. It is tape delayed on Fox Sports Bay Area. There are different broadcast teams on the two networks, totally different productions, so one can be delayed while the other one is live. All of the HDNet games are live.
Awesome! Then please, please get the downtown Brit to do this!!! Then I can catch the first half with dinner before the concert!
scotto... let me know if you need any help with this. i'd love to see the game next saturday. i may be wrong, and i haven't checked, but i didn't think fsba was airing it. anyone able to confirm or deny the veracity of that? cheers, battch GO QUAKES!!!
The TV schedule has been announced. Check the thread "TV schedule announced", or go here to see the whole thing: http://www.sjearthquakes.com/press_box/games_calendar.htm First game: SJ @ Colorado, April 12, live at 6 PM, tape delayed at 8 PM on Fox Sports Bay Area.
If I can get the buy-in from the Brit, this should be fairly quick and easy to set up. I think their projectors are already HDTV/1080i ready, so it would mean replacing their current DirecTV dish with an oval dish, switching their current DirecTV box to an HDTV-compatible one, and perhaps running a new type of cable to the projector. I'd be willing to do all of this myself if they are amenable to it. I just need to know what their own plans are and what they might be willing to let me come in and do for them. This could easily be set up in time for Saturday's game. It shouldn't take more than 3 or 4 hours total to implement. I just need a name to call to discuss the details.
Michael I believe is the guy you're gonna want to talk to. If you just call the Brit, they can direct you to who it is you need to talk to. Whenever I called, they took a message and I got a call back if the person wasn't there. They're pretty good about that.
Erin, I'm still trying to work out the details. I was out of town until yesterday. I talked with Michael briefly last night and we're going to talk again today to see if we can hammer out the details. - Scott
It's not looking good so far. I've been playing phone tag with the folks at the Brit, but it looks like their satelite system was installed by someone else and they are concerned about warranty issues if some hack like me comes in and rigs up a new system so that they can get HDNet. I have a feeling they won't want to spring for the HD equipment on their own. I'm willing to kick it in and do the install myself, but it doesn't look good. I'll check again tomorrow, but I can't count on anything happening at the Brit. I guess I may be stuck watching it at home by myself instead. Maybe we can get it hooked up for later in the season. - Scott
Thanks for the schedule reminder, but I wasn't just thinking of the Quakes games. There's an MLS game on HDNet almost every week. It could be a fun thing for the Brit to do a high def. Game of the Week each week, no matter if it's the Quakes or not.
Scott, you rock for doing all this work. Even if they don't work out this week, hopefully they'll work out for future games. Thanks!
Yes, thanks for taking the extra effort. I'll call the Brit tomorrow asking if they are planning on showing the game. Maybe if there's enough interest, they'll be more inclined to oblige...?
