Was told the opener of HDC at Victoria Street will get an extra half-hour of "pregame" on ESPN2. They are filming a tour off the stadium earlier in the week, and are going to show it that day as part of the festivities on television. Should be quite a day!
Is it pregame? Because the broadcast starts at 4 - CSW is on til 3:30 so I thought the extra time was in case that the game ran long as much as it was to showcase the facility.
Kickoff now set for 1:28 pm pt, so it's a pushed back kickoff and thirty more minutes on the back end.
The CWS is on before the game!?!?!? OOOhhhh, I knew it should have been a 9 game road trip, we're screwed!!!
ESPN2 has 2:30 blocked out for the broadcast, from 1pm to 3:30pm PT (4 to 6:30 ET). If the game goes the standard two hours, there'll be just enough time to say goodnight. In a related story, this must be a misprint: 2003 Pepsi MLS All-Star Game - Saturday, August 2nd Home Depot Center Carson, CA 12:30 p.m. ET - ABC on www.mlsnet.com/schedules Surely they're not playing the All-Star Game at 9:30am local time?
Don't forget, we'll see the MLS Cup banner raised that day too. I'm sure they'll have plenty of coverage of that great event.
I think misprint is right. They list it 3:30 pm ET here: http://www.mlsnet.com/content/03/keydates03.html
I'm not sure that's been determined yet. That weekend is the super-regionals (round of 16) to be held at eight yet-to-be-determined sites. But then again, if the network is calling the tune (likely), they probably have already told the NCAA when the game will be.
Schedule for ESPN2 that afternoon, times ET: NCAA COLLEGE WORLD SERIES SUPER REGIONAL GAME #1/GAME #2 12:30 pm to 3:30 pm 1999 WORLD'S STRONGEST MAN COMPETITION 3:30 pm to 4:00 pm MAJOR LEAGUE SOCCER COLORADO RAPIDS VS. LA GALAXY THE HOME DEPOT STADIUM LOS ANGELES, CA USA 4:00 pm to 6:30 pm
Let's pray ESPN is willing to scrap the WSM replay because CWS games have a tendency to run a bit loooooooooooooooooooooooooooong.
Does this mean - like in basketball - that two different games are going on at the same time, and that when the first one ends, or one team gets a huge lead, we'll switch to the other - with the net result being that we'll be watching until the longer of the two games ends? Just curious.
That's exactly why they have that scheduled there -- as filler. Not any different than what they usually do.
Maybe it's Game #1 OR Game #2, because I think those Super Regionals are best-of-three between two teams? Is that right? So they have an option to take either a Game One of a certain series or a Game Two of a different series, if they are staggered (they might be), depending on what matchup is most intriguing. They don't announce the Super Regional sites and matchups until June 2.
There's a real danger, once again, that the baseball will run into the soccer. I almost expect it. And they will really be pissed over on the World's Strongest Man boards.
I don't think it's a "real" danger, and I certainly don't expect it. Maybe if a game goes extra innings, or is delayed by rain. We're looking at a 3 1/2-4 hour window to get the baseball game in. Yes some games run that long, but most don't. WSM, however, is definitely buffer material - and we do have to give ESPN credit for putting it there to minimize the risk to the MLS coverage.
Last year, they were best of 3s with Game 1 on Friday, game 2 on Saturday and Game 3 on Sunday. Nothing in this year's info shows any even tentatve schedule. Maybe they are doing some double headers on Saturday instead of Friday-Saturday. Or maybe they are hedging their bets because of weather (one Game 1 was on Saturday last year because of rain).
