Have we finally transformed into the FC Dallas model?

This is to say completely embraced the homegrown cultivation academy model. Academy with a dash of smart MLS journeymen signings. We should absolutely not be shy of replicating them.

we got JT at keep who is solid if not unspectacular. Built in draft with Beason and Yueill. Homegrown with Cade and now Cruz Medina. Are we there yet or still a little bit off

Leave it up mods, Cowell, Marcinkowski, Tsakiris, Walls, Medina, Ochoa, Richmond... the Quakes will soon BE the USMNT!!

(it helps that we don't spend money)

We are closer. However, the results aren't there yet. JT is solid as you noted, but Beason is backup material at best and Yuell should move to the bench and probably traded. Cade has been hit and miss and I have not seen Cruz play. When the Quakes make the playoffs two years in a row with a young team, sells players for good money, and has a pipeline of players, we will be there.

Well short of poaching the entire Philadelphia Union staff we have certainly built one of the most successful and experienced staff in MLS with a track record of developing some of the best American kids to come through the DA academies. Matt Martin and John Wolyneic both played key roles in the success of Red Bulls in NY/NJ and of course everyone knows how central Luchi was to the success of FC Dallas and their developmental focus. Even GK coach Adin Brown has shown he can coach up young keepers with the success of Slonina and Brady under his training. Mix in the new hires of a analytics department that are some of the most experienced in American soccer and you have to believe that the Quakes are going to mine the very best players and recruit them to join the academy.

My thread on this board from October 4, 2014... so 8 years 2 months 1 week ago:

MLS success on a limited budget, could FC Dallas U25s beat the Quakes, and hiring a new coach

"There is already an alternative pathway to success from that of the Galaxy and Sounders for the Quakes to emulate should they wish to do so."
    Matt Doyle today:

I'm not even sure what that's supposed to mean...

It’s not actually very hard. You are mocking Quakes HGs as “soon being the USMNT”!!” and something something Quakes don’t spend any money.

How is saying the Quakes homegrowns are about to take over the USMNT considered "mocking Quakes HGs" and "disparage and ridicule your own players"? You're going to have to explain that one to me like I'm five...

Come on, please, you’re gonna try to claim your comment wasn’t meant to be sarcastic, especially when you include players like Richmond and Walls as “becoming” the USMNT and the telltale double exclamation point. :ROFLMAO:

It was 100% NOT meant to be sarcastic?? When have I ever disparaged the current crop of Quakes homegrowns? What the hell are you even talking about? I'm constantly hyping up guys like Tsakiris and Medina, and Cowell before them although I have cooled a bit on that. Obviously I realize not every Quakes homegrown is going to play for the USMNT, Richmond and Walls are listed because they are Quakes homegrowns and I listed ALL current homegrowns, not because I expect them specifically to be playing in some future World Cup (although who knows with prospects, and Walls has played for the U-20s).

And I just posted a tweet from Matt Doyle saying "if you're a USYNT sicko, the Quakes are about to become an S-Tier team"... do you think that was sarcastic as well?

I spent a whole page and a half in the "Breakout Youth Players in MLS/USL" thread hyping up Tsakiris in September:
    https://www.bigsoccer.com/threads/breakout-youth-players-in-mls-usl-2022-edition.2119432/page-23

I also post fairly regularly in "The San Jose Earthquakes Thread" in the youth national team forums...

I didn't think I would have to defend my support for the Quakes developing homegrowns when I've been saying the Quakes need to go that route for almost a decade, but here we are...

MLS success on a limited budget, could FC Dallas U25s beat the Quakes, and hiring a new coach

"There is already an alternative pathway to success from that of the Galaxy and Sounders for the Quakes to emulate should they wish to do so."

If the Quakes are in charge of developing these guys I have doubts but cautiously optimistic. I think Tsakiris and Cowell leave soon anyways so thats better for them.

Please, I'll leave the whole post here:

BE the USMNT!!? Leave it up mods!! Really? Of course we know a couple of those guys have a shot, but those 6 guys are going to "BE" the USMNT, meaning they'll all be key figures? No one would believe this. Richmond is 22 and has barely played for the 1st team and doesn't even stand out much on Quakes II. Walls has been with the team for 2 or 3 years(?) and has yet to get any MLS minutes. And of course we know how tough the competition is on USMNT. It's a stretch even for Tsakiris and Medina to become mainstays, let alone guys like Richmond and Walls to all "BE" the USMNT. And you're going to tell me that your post was completely void of sarcasm? :ROFLMAO:

And what does "it helps that we don't spend money" mean, if we've developed this incredible core of HG's that going to take over the USMNT? Less money -> better prospects?

    1. "Leave it up mods": Because it was posted on the wrong board. This was originally posted in "USA Men" not here, it was later moved here after my comment...

    2. "It helps that we don't spend money": Because that means the homegrowns are going to get more of a chance to develop, more first team opportunities, and are less likely to be blocked by big money DPs... literally what I was saying regarding the Quakes adopting the FC Dallas model, 8 years ago, and what this thread is about.

    To sum it up...
    - Your evidence that I was being sarcastic was that A) I listed all Quakes homegrowns instead of leaving some off and B) I used one extra exclamation point
    - You think you know better than me, whether I was being sarcastic or not, perhaps you have mind reading capabilities
    - You are basing your opinion on one comment where you don't seem to have the full context, over the entire body of comments I've made over a decade
    - Even after having all of this explained to you, you are doubling down instead of dropping it, or <gasp> admitting you could be wrong... very mentally healthy!! (note extra !)
    - That doubling down comes AFTER I posted a link to my "FC Dallas" thread from 8 years ago... literally the same team this thread references... and your interpretation is that I think this thread is so absurd I was being sarcastic?
    - You're getting into individual players and their chances of playing for the US: Could you possibly be mistaking a comment that wasn't entirely serious in that it was hyping up Quakes homegrowns in a positive way, and misinterpreting that as a comment that wasn't serious because it was sarcastic in a negative way?
    - Maybe ask yourself: Why would I post a sarcastic comment on Thursday, and then deny that it was sarcastic just three days later? Why was my initial response "I'm not even sure what that's supposed to mean..." could that possibly be because, since my comment wasn't sarcastic, I didn't even understand that you were interpreting it that way? Or was I playing coy or something?

Coming up from the Academy? I like Verhoeven and Spivey myself. Outside of Medina I don't like the U17 group. In U-15s Oneto, Tan, Atsuya, Guido and Medrano I think have some raw talent and potential.

I to elevate their game though Tsakiris, Cowell and Medina need to advance their skills in Europe. However Medina has the biggest upside to all of them. A lot will tell this year what Tsakiris can do. I rate players much more critically then most do here at least. I don't jump to the they're doing great when they're not, and they're USMNT quality when they're not.

It's the same reason I haven't put Ebobisse on the USMNT projection. Hey may get a couple looks, but he isn't good enough. Marcinkowski and Yueill will probably never see the USMNT again. However if JT all of a sudden steps his game up with Adin Brown and fixes his distribution issues and game lapses he could come back into the picture but he will have some really good competition with Brady, Horvath and Celentano ahead of him.

OK, this gets to the core of it:

Yes, I don't believe that your comment was "entirely serious". I think that's pretty obvious. Whether or not that qualifies as "sarcasm" is up for debate.

You agree with what exactly that he's saying?

Do you know what it means to hype something up? How is that the same thing as "sarcasm"?
It's pretty much the opposite end of the scale from "disparage and ridicule" and "mocking Quakes HGs" which is how you described it...

I read it as hyperbolic, and you've admitted as much ("not entirely serious"). You are not a poster who has a history of making rainbows and unicorns kinds of posts about the Quakes, to put it mildly (one of many, many examples here - there should be a subreddit called "bottomleftQuakes"!). If I misread it, and you are making a completely non-hyperbolic / this is what I truly believe will happen(!) rainbows and unicorns post about the Quakes, my bad!!

I agree with @JazzyJ that Richmond and Walls have a very slim chance to become National Team Main Contributors. I also agree Tsakiris and Medina have an extremely high hill to climb as well to become key components.
