    Yes, in fact they do.

These are also the people responsible for Paula Poundstone's continuing career.

I think the only way to determine whether this is the best DC United team ever is to count their contribution to the trophey case at the end of the season.

As of right now, they've bowed out of the CONCACAF Champions Cup, the US Open Cup, and the SuperLiga without a trophey. Right now, it doesn't look good for giving them the crown right now.

If this DC United team can put the Supports Shield, an MLS Cup, and a Copa Sudamericana cup into the trophey case by the end of 07, then one could argue they are the greatest team in club history.

    Until then... they're just good.

I'm wondering if winning 1 MLS Cup, 2 supporter shields and 2 international semifinal appearances isn't enough for this team to mark its place in history. This isn't a rhetorical question, I'm really just wondering in case we miss out on MLS cup this year.

No, you think again. All you did was quote the same stuff Skippy did earlier.

That wasn't the reference I was thinking of.

Greg Giraldo did a bit in a comedy show a couple of years ago about how athletes always thank God for winning a game. He wondered why none of them ever said "We would have won if Jesus hadn't made me fumble."

If Kathy Griffin used the same idea in her acceptance speech, she wouldn't be the first comedian to steal material.

The biggest offender of stealing material is that no-talent hack Dane Cook.
    I bet he's a Revolution fan.

I don't get him at all. Or Kathy Griffin.

Now they're becoming famous for being famous. Like Paris Hilton or Andy Dick, who might be the most loathsome celebrities alive today.

Dane Cook seems to think everything's funny if you just say it twice.

It didn't work for Randy Savage, and it ain't working for him.

Didn't Tony Dungy say "God doesn't care who wins sports games" during his Super Bowl speech?

Well, that would explain the whole "God is a Cubs fan" thing.

In its current format, NO MLS team will win the CCC anymore - Not until its switched to May/June/July and possibly merged with SuperLiga - That one woulda been nice, but nobody really cares about the US Open Cup anymore - Winning one of the remaining would put this team up amongst the greats - Heck, even just advancing to the Semis of the Copa would do that

I hate to yank this back to a sort of topic, but what is the highest points-per-game a team has average in a season?

    Semifinal appearances mean nothing.

The back-to-back SS combined with an MLS Cup victory means we could start the conversation.

But remember that the 1996-99 team won 3 MLS Cups, 2 supporters shields, an Open Cup, a CCC, and an Interamerican Cup in a four season span. And, in that time, it was a finalist in the 1997 Open Cup and the 1998 MLS Cup and a semifinalist in the 1997 CCC.
Isn't it amazing that the least funny man in America somehow has a career as a stand up comic?

That team scored a LOT of goals. I mean, a ridiculous number of goals. They played a Thursday night national ESPN telecast at Dallas and won 8-1. Vanney scored on a free kick in that game.

The man would have to know something about politics for this to apply, in Dubya's case, that label definitely isn't applicable.
