I had an experience last night that got me to thinking about this. I was bidding on an IM I was fairly certain would pop to passable if I could get him on my roster before the training update. I had raised a few times and then I got an HT mail from what turns out to be the person I'm bidding against. He pleads with me to let him have the guy. He doesn't have much money and I have loads. His words. I decided to do a little investigation before I just let the player go out of hand. He is a new player (one month in) and he looks to be hurting based on transfer history. I told him he could have the guy, but he would owe me (I felt like the Godfather). Surprisingly enough he offered me a friendly and started supporting me. I lost a potential high dollar player but may have earned more in the long run. After this happened, I realized this isn’t the first friend I have made while playing Hattrick. My first friendly was against a team from Atlanta, the ATLiens. I needed a friendly and started challenging anyone who was online at that time. This guy was one of them. He accepted my challenge and we played. He killed me but was apologetic about it. Afterward he became my second supporter. He still visits my guestbook on occasion to say hi and see how I’m doing. I will HT mail him now and then. The people in my old series, V.231, stop by as well to say hi and check my progress. I guess much of it has to do with the fact I was active in the series, with press announcements and such. Kuhnscoot and I HT mail each other constantly during games we are watching. I know him from the Wizards boards here on Big Soccer, but never really communicated with him prior to playing Hattrick. Another friendship made. AAGunner aka Genghis Khan made a roadtrip out to KC to visit family and met with Mark, Eric (who doesn’t post here, the twit) and I. I count all of the rest of you here on the forum friends as well. I have many of you bookmarked and watch your matches, even before the BS cup was started. All people brought together by Hattrick. It’s amazing. You get the enjoyment of managing a soccer team, but the added benefit of the friends you make along the way. Does anyone have similar stories?
I have communicated with a number of players through conferences, ht-mail, guestbooks and this forum. Through the Kansas City Fed. I think it is very likely that I will meet GM-George soon as we keep trying to arrange to meet up at a Wizards match or something. Like Chris, I enjoyed throwing a few beers back with AAGunner and Eric. I would imagine when Kuhnscoot gets back from England we'll get together and drink a few beers too
Of course, I would love to go grab a beer with you guys, or hang out at the Wizards game, which Chris said that I have to do now. I had met a guy while doing mfls last season, who I had convinced to sign up for hattrick, he's actually in the NKOTBF, Cumberland FC. Him and I havn'et talked a lot lately, but he's one guy that I haven't met before, but he is a friend of mine that I have gotten to know better through hattrick, we try to schedule a home-home every season, unfortunatly we couldn't this season, because he made it too far in the Open Cup, ended up losing to Tombstone. Another guy in my mfls group has gotten a hattrick team thanks to me, and he's another guy that I've become better friends with thanks to hattrick. Then of course like Chris said, him and I send like 50 messages during games about random stuff.
There is one guy that I supported for some reason or another and he supported me in return. He remains my only supporter and we keep a fairly active dialouge on HT. we're both division sixers tryin to move up in the world... oh yeah and that reminds me... some of you bishes need to support me.
You got my support when I get supporter, along with Chris, and maybe Mark if he doesn't totally humliate me in the smack thread.
me too. its in the HT team registry. https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?t=103316 This thread should be the one with the sticky.
I AGREE!!!!!!! Especially since I started that thread. As for Hattrick friendships, I have several: Nothern Lazies - He posts here once in a friggin blue moon, and never lets me forget the MOTS I laid on him my first season. Lots of III.1 history there (Seasons 13-17). Middlesex Athletic - Again, a poster here once and again. We keep tabs on each other every so often. Shoot, I sent pics of my family to him just this evening. He's a Metrostars fan, but I try to look past that. Rizzo's Salesmen - Found out last season that he not only plays indoor 5 minutes from my house, but we may have played against each other 4-5 years ago. He tendered an offer to join his team, but I'm in horrible shape right now. Cyclones - It's been awhile, but George and I once had contact online quite a bit. I take pride in coming up with the Copa America his federation has hosted for like 6 seasons now. The Fancy Garlic Presses - My best friend's husband, I convinced him to join Hattrick 9 seasons ago. He hates soccer, but is addicted nevertheless. We're closer friends because of the game. Right now I'm trying to convince him to forego his 3-4-3 experiment, and stick with his highly effective 5-4-1 press. I've played this game almost 10 seasons now. I've been asked to be a national coach (back in the early days), a GM, a MOD, you name it. I've seen online friends go down in flames from cheating scandals (Center City Gooners, HBS), and I've seen online friends quit and disappear (ArsenalPSX, Redneck Trappers, and Bob Hemp or whatever). I even started a huge flame war thread on the old boards about hating people because they're americans (I'm against it). Fun times. Who knew the game would give so much?
This is the kind of thing I'm talking about. I have been playing 3 months now and look at the stories I have to tell already. Let's hear some more.
Hmm there are a couple of guys I've become friends with on hattrick most of them are from playing in the same series, and some from federations and being in the same region, Missouri... Esch from Slaughtered Jawas, Ardententhusiest from North County Raiders and believe it or not, I even have become friends with die hard Cubs fan, Kensington Fire... And if your from St.Louis thats quite an achievement.... I play EPL and MFLS fantasy soccer with Kop and a few other BS posters, wierdly enough I think we talk more on the forums for those games then we do here or on hattrick... But then again he's a KC fan, and there all insanely jealous of STL teams hehe.. Last year I personally met GM-George (Cyclones), and Slashers (Slashers), at Cardinals game in St.Louis, wierdly enough their both Cardinal fans not Royal fans... We hung out and drank a few beers... George looks alot like that guy from the Tao of Steve, Grounded for Life, and the guy that gets his hand cut off in the first Blade... They invited me up for KCW game which I might eventually go see, but I'm still holding out for STL MLS franchise... Long live the Steamers!.. Nocturnal United
Update More friends. I met several more Hattrickers tonight at the Colorado/KC Wizards game. None have posted here yet, but I'm trying. They are Parlorcars, Dwarf4hire, Katyflyer, Opossum and the piece de resistance...GM-George. All very nice and while my conversation with GM-George was short, I get the impression he is incredibly knowledgable about the game. I'm hoping to convince him to head this way and maybe we can tap that knowledge.
this is a cool thread, I have developed a couple of HT connections and things like BS Cup help. I noticed this on the front page at HT, taking things a step further: *** 5/1/2004 Divine Youthpull It is a joyful and remarkable day in the historyof Hattrick! 08.25 this morning Hattrick Time the first (as far as we know) Hattrick baby was born! The happy parents Björn Tengman and Malin Olsson (users Legazy and maol44) met through Hattrick and are a couple since. This morning their daughter Miranda was born, in spite of the fact that youth pulls generally are not possible until Sunday in Sweden The Hattrick team sends our warmest congratulations to Björn, Malin and of course Miranda! ***
Oh yeah I am real jealous of St Louis teams Seriously you need to come up to KC and check out a Wizards match, we have a blast and I know there are at least three regular hattrickers in the Cauldron now.
Another friendship story. I love this game. I bought a player yesterday (Andoni Suiero) to be a starter/injury replacement for Kees Hofman who was injured in a match. Got into a fairly heated bidding war and made off with my prize. No big deal. Log on today and I have a message in my guestbook I checked out the website (in Spanish) and the father-in-law translate the relavant parts. My new player is nicknamed "trigger happy" I sent a reply and was invited to join the friendly cup he runs. I'll have to decline, but its amazing how things work in this game sometimes.
