OK, this has got to be the reason that the quakes keep getting screwed. Why is it that teams like the Metrostars can sign players like Howard ( huge extension), Pope (solid US defender), Moreno (Bolivian international) and now just get DiGi in a "weighted lottery". Also, look at Dc United. They have Quarantra, Convey, Etcheverry, Stewert, Rimando, Quintinallia, all of these players are internationals or are the brink of being. Then there is the Galaxy who by some sort of miracle have the exact same roster as last year and some how land Chacon and Myong-bo. Oh, also, if you thought Ruiz was that good from playing in only Guatemala, your wrong, he spent some time playing in Greece ( with that said he in no way is getting close to a league minimum). We sign Ching who will hopefully do well for more than 45 minutes, and we sign Onstad who, well, i'm suprised that he plays professional football! Also, why couldn't the league sign Joe, he was a keeper on te rise, and hated how Arena would always pick Rimando over Cannon. There has to be something wrong, I hope that someone can help me out with the answer, and don't tell me about the salary cap, look at NY/NY, they even have a new coach!!!!!!!!!!!
A: Although many detailed analyses can be given, the answer to your question ultimately boils down to this: "Single Entity". Enjoy the SJ soccer while we have it!
New York and LA have always been on the receiving end of constant butt kissing from MLS so this shouldn't surprise anyone. The galaxatives imaginary salary cap fluctuates any time they want a new player and if the league propped up the metroturds any higher they would be hovering above the ground. These are the two major media cities so the MLS cannot let them fail if the league is to survive
Um, you were good last year. The Metros and DC missed the playoffs. Yes, it sucks that you lost good players without apparently picking up similar replacements.
And SJ has: Donovan (makes more money than Howard), Agoos (makes the same money as Pope), Ekelund (Danish International). What's the question? Only DC and the Metros entered the lottery. Since the Metros won they won't be able to enter any lotteries for the rest of the year, while SJ still can. Are you upset that SJ didn't win a lottery they didn't even enter for a player they didn't even want? And by all accounts, Digi is going to make a pretty low salary (near min.) and is coming back from 2 years of near career ending injuries. Why is everyone making him out to be some kind of superstar? He may not even last the season. What does having a new coach have to do with the salary cap? Yallop was a new coach in 2001 and made many changes to the team that year as well. That's what new coaches usually do, make changes to the team to try and improve them.
hate to say it, but I am with the Metro fan.... you are readin far too into it way too soon.... at least wait for the season to start.....
Which is not to say, I wouldn't love it if the salary and cap info weren't as public as it is for NFL, so that all the incredulous fans could see for themselves that truthfully (at least in this regard) the playing field is truly even. Contracts really should be available to the public. -KMJvet
